Happy Juneteenth ❤️🖤💚

Juneteenth began in Texas on June 19, 1865, when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas received the long-delayed news of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. What began as a Texas tradition has become a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, and community.

As Austin’s only Black-owned art gallery, we do not take our place in this story for granted. There are nearly 35,000 art galleries in the United States, yet fewer than 200 are Black-owned. That’s less than 0.3%.

For five years, RichesArt Gallery has worked to cultivate a space where artists, creatives, families, and neighbors can gather, be seen, and flourish. In East Austin, where generations of Black residents have shaped the cultural fabric of our city, we are honored to continue that legacy through art, storytelling, and connection.

Our community reminds us that Juneteenth is not only about remembering the past. It’s also about celebrating the joy, creativity, and community that continue to carry us forward.

Because of you, we bloom. Till Death Do Us Art. 🌹
