The newest paper from the lab. Scientific writing in physiology: Confused and misused terms and phrases". Hopefully this would be a good resource for trainees and junior faculty. If you need a reprint in PDF, please let Dr. Tanaka know.
Scientific Writing in Physiology: Confused/Misused Terms and Phrases | Journal of Applied Physiology

We are now recruiting participants who can join our study investigating the impact of carbohydrate supplement extracted from seaweed called "Rhamnan Sulfate" to the vascular function. Participation includes 4 study visits over 2.5 month, including 3-weeks of taking supplement x 2 times. Study visits will involve measures of physical health (e.g. blood pressure, collection of blood, vascular diameter etc.).
Compensation: up to $200
Disclaimer— these results are gathered for research purposes only and should not take the place of a medical examination
We are recruiting…
- participants older 35-85 years of age
- participants with have at least one cardiovascular risk (eg., hypertension, obesity, impaired blood glucose)

Taha's study was just published in the Journal of Hypertension. The bottom line? PWV should be measured in supine position if possible. If the supine posture is not tolerated, knee bend followed by a slight incline position may be recommended.

y to prevent jugular vein interference in the recorded carotid pulse. Objective: To examine the impact of varying body positions on PWV. Methods: Seventy adults were studied in the fully supine (0°) to 40° upper body tilted-up positions with and without knee bend. Carotid-femoral PWV (cfPWV) was m...

A latest article showing that masters athletes in general and female athletes in particular demonstrate superior sexual function, satisfaction, and behavior presumably due to their better overall health status.
Sexual Function, Behavior, and Satisfaction in Masters Athletes
Masters athletes are endowed with high functional capacity, long-term health, and psychological outlook. However, their sexual activity and function are largely unknown. We investigated the influen...

Taha's study has been published. This study is to facilitate meta analyses and systematic studies in arterial stiffness.
Converting and Standardizing Various Measures of Arterial Stiffness to Pulse Wave Velocity
Background: A variety of arterial stiffness measures have been used to assess the impacts of disease states and various interventions without clear consensus among them. One of the primary problems faced by investigators conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses is the lack of standardized met...
