How you view children is everything to how they perceive themselves. By believing they are capable individuals, we provide them with the confidence and desire to engage their curiosities and take reasonable risks both independently and alongside others.

The Reggio Emilia approach inspires adults to believe in the power of how children express themselves through “a hundred languages”, with endless possibilities for communicating and representing their ideas. The image of the child is an important foundation for believing in the strength, competence, and power that children have, seen as necessary and invaluable members of their communities.

When taking inspiration from Reggio Emilia schools, co-learning is a foundational component to the philosophy. For parents and children, co-learning can be an exceptional opportunity to more deeply understand your child’s development at home.

As educators, parents, and caregivers, it is not our job to provide children with the knowledge we think they need to have. Alternatively, when we observe children playing and pose open-ended questions to spark inquiry-based learning, children are able to tap into their high-order thinking skills while growing their self-confidence.

By actively wondering alongside your child and encouraging them to explore their own ideas, we are expanding opportunities to learn from them and with them.
