We now expand into high-school Chemistry and other sciences! ATX Tutoring welcomes Avery Schimpf to our team of tutors. Avery is a senior Chemistry major at St. Edward's University, here in Austin. She has served as a Teaching Assistant for multiple college-level Chemistry labs, as a Supplemental Instructor for college-level Chemistry courses, and as a volunteer with LifeWorks Austin as a GED health sciences tutor. In all of these capacities, Avery worked one-on-one and in small groups to assist students in their academic work in Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. Avery is available for in-person or virtual tutoring. If you or one of your students needs help in these areas (or in any of our other areas of expertise, including Math & Language Arts), let us know! atxtutoring.com

After two and a half years as a 'solo act,' ATX Tutoring is expanding with the addition of another tutor -- whose specialty is MATH.
Shervin Hawley has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and is working towards a Master’s degree in the field as well, from Texas State University. He has been involved in instructing and tutoring students for many years – mostly at the community college and university levels. He was a Supplemental Instruction Leader at Austin Community College (ACC) from 2011 to 2014, a tutor at ACC from 2014 to 2016 and again from 2018 to the present, and he also served as a tutor at the Math Cats tutoring lab at Texas State University from 2016 to 2018. He likes math, just a bit, and he likes *teaching* math, a lot. His specialties are in algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, and more – and, even better, he can make those subjects fun (or at least bearable, if they’re not your thing). Shervin is a great fit at ATX Tutoring because he not only knows his stuff but he is fun, personable, and warm, and he also understands the importance of the tutor-student relationship, as well as the importance of building student self-confidence, in the process of learning.

ATX Tutoring is profiled in the current issue of the "Neighbors of Belterra and Highpointe" magazine. Thank you to Cheryl Mills for capturing my practice and philosophy, and doing her best with my long-winded answers. 🙂
