Now accepting applications for CONNECT Fellows! The deadline to submit applications is August 7, 2026, by 11:59 pm CST.

CONNECT brings together graduate students and community organizations to enhance impact through collaboration on data and evaluation strategies.

About CONNECT:
- Fellows collaborate with organizations as a consultant, contributing insights and recommendations through a structured project.
- Fellows gain hands on experience, build their network, and develop project management skills.
- Projects span 3-4 months with weekly commitment ranging from 5-12 hours a week.
- Each fellow receives a $2,000 award for participating in CONNECT.
- Most projects are remote and asynchronous, though some projects may request in-person work for interviews, evaluation, or other activities.

A two‑day conference bringing together scholars, artists, and activists to imagine and enact global alternatives to militarism.

šŸŽ¬Day 1: Thursday, April 23 | 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Join us for a free public screening of Mālama Mākua (2025)—winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2025 Hawaiā€˜i International Film Festival. The documentary traces grassroots efforts to return militarized lands to Native Hawaiian stewardship and connects local resistance to global movements for demilitarization and environmental justice. Screening followed by a Q&A with the director, cast, and producer Dr. Laurel Mei‑Singh (UT Austin).

šŸŒDay 2: Friday, April 24 | 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
The full conference convenes international scholars and activists to explore how communities confront violence, restore sacred relationships, and build sustainable, interdependent futures. Free breakfast and lunch provided. Special performance by Viva Palestina Orchestra.

The Spanish Atlantic on Paper: Methods on Material Culture and Critical Bibliography
April 9th - 10th, 2026, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Located at the Institute for Historical Studies and the Benson Latin American Collection.
Join us for a two‑day symposium bringing together scholars of textual, visual, and material cultures across the Spanish Atlantic world. Together, we’ll explore how examining materiality reshapes our understanding of the historical geographies of the Spanish empire, the ā€œNew World,ā€ Latin America, the United States, and their interconnected borderlands.
The program includes: five invited speaker lectures, a showcase of the Benson Latin American Collection’s treasures, a book discussion and panel conversations on archives, digital objects, & curatorial practice.

Light breakfast, lunch, and refreshments provided throughout the day.

April 6th, 2026 at 4:00 PM in the Perry-CastaƱeda Library, Learning Lab 1
Join us for a talk exploring the collaborative, justice‑centered work of the Urban Bird Project (UBP), a transdisciplinary initiative connecting Rhetoric, Ecology, and Chicanx & Indigenous Studies through the study of local, migratory, and culturally significant birds.
Led by faculty and graduate students at UT San Antonio and developed alongside communities across South Texas, Greater MƩxico, and beyond, this presentation highlights emerging projects that model ecological engagement as a rhetorical and relational practice.
