Did you know paper is weighed and then labeled- for example the bond paper you use in your printer is 20lbs per 500 (large) sheets, cover stock will be heavier, usually around 80lb. The paper that we use for watercolor drawing must "hold" the water and be thick enough to not seep - we use 140lb arches or watercolor paper (not inexpensive). With art, paper quality matters!
These auroria borealis were painted on 140lb stock!

SUMMER Kids Painting WORKSHOPS 2022
When we start our thumbnail sketches, we discuss how all animals start with shape, we look at negative space, distance, size and elements of composition. The kids pickup on the methods really well, then we transfer the sketch onto the canvas. We paint background first and nice, thick paint. Techniques are taught every class over and over, so improving is inevitable. Lines, brush strokes, types of brushes, angles, contrast, color balancing, mixing paints. We learn hilights, shadow, blending. Today I heard Miss Marlo explaining that making green with the existing blue and yellow the student had been using, will create a more realistic green for her painting (rather than a pure green from a bottle). It's very interesting Marlo's skills with mine meld themselves to well-rounded instruction. It is so fun and we LOVE teaching these kids

*DECEMBER PAINTING WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE THIS WEEK!*
After a long hiatus we are so thrilled to announce that we will be teaching in-person art workshops again starting this week (Sat. December 18th and Mon. December 20th).
Each student will get to complete a piece of art of their choice on a canvas by the end of this three hour class. Please share this flyer, Loree and Marlo are excited to get painting!
