The Austin Jewish Academy is a pluralistic K-8 grade co-ed independent school. We welcome all.

The Austin Jewish Academy (AJA) has been a pillar of Austin’s Jewish community for over twenty years. Since opening its doors in 1997, AJA has been committed to preparing young minds both for their academic journeys and for their roles as critically-thinking leaders. AJA’s progressive and rigorous curriculum provides opportunities for hands-on, collaborative learning within a nurturing environmen

t and is built upon high expectations based on individual student profiles. Coupled with a rich foundation in Jewish heritage and values, the education that takes place at AJA ignites a life-long love of learning and a commitment to tikkun olam, the repair of an incomplete world. Together, these factors ensure Austin Jewish Academy graduates are today’s accomplished, innovative thinkers and tomorrow’s compassionate problem-solvers and leaders. Austin Jewish Academy is a community Jewish day school open to all students and is affiliated with Prizmah, a non-profit organization that promotes pluralistic non-denominational Jewish education. AJA receives accreditation through AdvancED and is sustained with the generous financial support of Shalom Austin and other donors.

Meet Finli! 🐠 Ms. Hill's new class goldfish is bringing a little extra magic to 4th grade's reading of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, which features a talking goldfish guide of its own. Beyond the fun, caring for Finli is teaching students all about responsibility. He's already a class favorite!

STEM class is off to a running start! 6th graders solved a Question Trail and redesigned the egg drop as a landing-pad engineering challenge. 7th graders launched into an Instant Design Challenge and are gearing up to explore how scientists study the natural world — setting the stage for chemistry this trimester. So much creativity and teamwork already!

Before our students walked through the doors, our faculty was already hard at work building something special. Professional Development Week was packed with collaboration, learning, and preparation — curriculum planning, project-based learning, safety training, classroom setup, and so much more. Our teachers shared ideas, supported one another, and brought their full energy and expertise. They welcomed new colleagues, built community, and made sure every detail was ready. By Meet & Greet, our classrooms were prepared, our teachers were united, and our community was stronger. That's what makes AJA incredible.

What better way to kick off the school year than together? Our Back-to-School Splash Bash brought the AJA community together for splashing, laughter, and reconnecting. Old friends reunited, new friendships sparked, and parents caught up too. This is what makes AJA special — the people. We can't wait to see what this year brings!

Our incoming Head of School, Dr. Karyn Rayburn, recently attended the NAIS Institute for New Heads, Class of 2026.

"This past week challenged me, stretched my thinking, and reminded me that leadership is never a solo endeavor. I leave with new ideas, trusted colleagues from across the country, and a deep appreciation for the generosity with which experienced heads shared their wisdom.

As I begin my first year as Head of School at Austin Jewish Academy, I’m excited to put these lessons into practice and continue learning alongside this remarkable community."

Our first graders spent several weeks diving deep into one big question: how can we take care of plants and animals? Through their project-based learning unit, students explored life cycles, animal classification, and real ecosystems — from desert habitats to classroom environments. Along the way, they wrote original poems, stories, and informational pieces, each one authored and illustrated by the student themselves. The unit wrapped up with a showcase featuring recycled art, animal sculptures, nature art, and wildflower creations. Most importantly, students left with a real sense of purpose — understanding that picking up trash, recycling, and caring for living things are actions they can take right now. These first graders didn't just learn about being guardians of the earth. For a few weeks, they actually were!

Congratulations to these AJA Alumns!

A full-circle moment for our AJA community - we welcomed back our alumni as graduating seniors for a joyful Senior Walk through the halls where their journeys began. Cheered on by current students and teachers, they reminded us all of the lasting impact of an AJA education.
