As we wrap up our Summer Spotlight Series, we’re highlighting a team dedicated specifically to supporting Longhorn parents and families. Since 1948, Texas Parents has helped families stay connected to and informed about the University.
Texas Parents assists parents and families as they navigate University resources to support their student. Full-time staff serve as a direct connection to campus when families aren’t sure where to find an answer. The team maintains the Texas Parents and Families Portal, featuring campus news, personalized newsletters and important announcements in one easy dashboard.
They also host Family Orientation and the campus-wide Family Weekend celebration. The Texas Parents Association, the University’s official association for parents and families, is also housed here.

As new Longhorns step into their colleges and schools for the first time during Orientation, many are learning about the resources that help ensure they can fully participate in their academic journey. Our Summer Spotlight Series continues with Disability and Access (D&A).
D&A works with students with disabilities to ensure they have equal access to their academic experiences, as required by federal law. The team approves individualized accommodations and partners with faculty and staff to create accessible classes and academic programs.
Students can find information on how to register, downloadable forms, documentation guidelines and accommodation letter requests online. D&A is here to help Longhorns navigate the accommodations process and receive the support they need.

As new Longhorns explore campus during Orientation, many are discovering the wide range of resources that help them thrive here. Our Summer Spotlight Series continues with the Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC), the team dedicated to promoting student well-being across the Forty Acres.
LWC creates a culture of student and campus well-being through programs, education, health messages, student engagement and collaboration. Their work centers on priority college health issues and uses evidence informed, multilevel prevention strategies to support all students.
Key focus areas include sleep and rest promotion, violence prevention, social connection, stress management, mental health and healthy relationships. Through training, outreach, public health interventions and strategic partnerships, LWC empowers Longhorns to build healthy habits that last.

Longhorn Orientation is bringing new Longhorns to campus, so this is an important time to spotlight the mental healthcare available on the Forty Acres. As we continue our Summer Spotlight Series, we’re turning our attention to the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC).
CMHC supports student success and well-being through assessment and referral, group and short-term individual counseling, psychiatry and related services for UT Austin students. Counselors are located within colleges and schools, the Student Services Building and CMHC @ WCP, making support convenient for Longhorns.
Students can also reach support after hours through the 24/7 CMHC Crisis Line (512-471-2255 or 988) and through TimelyCare, a free virtual mental health and well-being platform.

Orientation is bringing a steady stream of new Longhorns to campus, and many students are getting their first look at the health resources available to them. As part of our Summer Spotlight Series, we’re showcasing University Health Services (UHS), our accredited on-campus medical facility for undergraduate, graduate and professional students.
This department provides comprehensive healthcare services, public health education, campus-wide immunization clinics and leadership for emergent health issues. Students also have access to the 24/7 Nurse Advice Line at 512-475-6877 (NURS) for guidance anytime they need it. UHS is designed to support students’ well-being throughout their time at UT Austin.

Welcome to our Summer Spotlight Series!
Each week after New Student and Family Orientation, we’re highlighting some key programs, services and resources shape our students’ lives and support their success.
We’re kicking things off with University Unions, a cornerstone of our campus community with welcoming spaces, leadership and involvement opportunities, memorable events and a wide variety of food options.
With the Texas Union, Hogg Memorial Auditorium, William C. Powers, Jr. Student Activity Center and Cactus Cafe, the Unions create places where Longhorns eat, play and get involved. The department is also home to Events + Entertainment, the largest student programming organization at UT Austin.
