School nutrition professionals bring important firsthand experience to the policies and standards that affect school meal programs.

TASN appreciates the School Nutrition Association's continued advocacy and its work to make sure the realities of serving students are part of these conversations at the federal level.

As the proposed updates move forward, we'll share SNA resources to help members stay informed and understand opportunities to provide input.

Last week, SNA brought school nutrition’s voice straight to the table in Washington  🏛
 
President Ashley Powell, CEO Patti Montague, and VP of Government Affairs Liz Campbell met with the Office of Management and Budget as it reviews a proposed rule that would update school nutrition standards.
 
School nutrition professionals are the ones who know what these standards mean in a real cafeteria, on a real budget, with real kids in line. That’s exactly what SNA brought into that room.

Your next professional goal may be closer than you think!

In the latest A Minute With the TASN President, John Ceballos celebrates Martha Marquez, Child Nutrition Director at Mercedes Schools, on being named one of the first recipients of the new SNF Pathways Scholarship.

The School Nutrition Foundation (SNF), the charitable arm of the School Nutrition Association, helps school nutrition professionals grow through scholarships, grants, free training and other resources. The new Pathways Scholarship is awarded quarterly and can help SNA members pursue or maintain an SNA Certificate in School Nutrition or work toward the School Nutrition Specialist credential.

Texas Association for School Nutrition also offers annual scholarships to help members pursue continuing education, college coursework, ESL and GED programs, Managers Academy, Administrative Academy and other professional development opportunities.

Investing in the people who feed Texas students makes a difference in every cafeteria.

Recently on Shoot the Bull, a Texas State Networks program featuring Texas Department of Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, listeners learned about the hands-on training some Texas school nutrition professionals are receiving at the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio.

Through real-world experience in food safety, menu planning and scratch cooking, participants gain practical skills they can bring back to their districts to strengthen school meal programs across Texas.
