This is a privately run account to preserve the spirit of Pease elementary. Pease was founded in 1876 and named after Governor Elisha M. Pease.

Pease Elementary, in the heart of downtown Austin, is the oldest continuously operating school in the state of Texas. Pease is the only all transfer school in the district. We have a diverse student population and small class size in grades K through 6.

Hey Bobcat Family the Wiley family could really use our help. Anya Wiley was a great supporter of our little school and served on the PTA board. I’ll be honest her cancer prognosis isn’t good. Her children are now at Bryker Woods Elementary and Huston Tillotson University. It would be great if she could have the peace of mind that her oldest has the financial ability to finish school. Anya, I’m a much better person for having met you.

Hey Folks, remember who was our ally and vote!!!

11/08/2022

Hey Pease Bobcats, today is election day!!!! yay! Go Vote! I want to remind y'all of why our kids aren't together today so yall can vote accordingly. In 2011, the GOP governor Rick Perry decided to balance the State of Texas budget using public education funds. This immediately threw many school districts into turmoil including AISD. Despite the state having a large rainy day fund, the Gov refused to use it. Pease found itself on the chopping block- schools had rallies, marches, town halls, etc; and we were able to save our schools when AISD decided to use their own rainy day funds. Unfortunately, the state of Texas never returned that $9.8 billion and continued to underfund Public Education while receiving more more $ from rising property taxes. The story continued with the eventual closure of Pease and other schools. The state's decreasing contributions to our schools are endangering their solvency. A direct line can be drawn from the state's negligence to the closure of Pease. Remember this when voting. I also like to remind you that the only Board of Trustee candidate who voted against closing schools including Pease is Arati Singh. She stood up for our schools. So, yall go vote!!!
