Participating in National History Day is the capstone academic project for our 8th grade students. This is the 47th annual National History Day competition, and the theme this year is "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History." This year, after presenting at the regional competition, several of our students were invited to compete at the state level.
Abigail Oban placed 3rd in the Junior Individual Website category with her project titled: “China’s One-Child Policy: A Radical Policy and Its Unintended Consequences.”
Selah Smith competed in the junior individual performance category. She placed first at the CenTex regional History Day in February and first out of 31 entries at Texas History Day earlier this month. Selah's eight minute performance is titled "The Book that Tore America Apart: How Harriet Beecher Stowe Directly Influenced the Civil War Through her Novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin".
Her thesis is: "Harriet Beecher Stowe created a public reaction that helped start the Civil War and led to reform with the Emancipation Proclamation through her revolutionary novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin. She did this through her talent as an author, her preconceived anti-slavery agenda, and her insistence on the accuracy of her novel".
The top two finishers from each of nine categories in the junior (middle school) and senior (high school) divisions qualify to compete at National History Day at the University of Maryland in June.
We’re proud of you, Mustangs!

We love seeing classic literature come to life on the stage! Our Rhetoric Theater class recently performed The Magician's Nephew, part of the C. S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia series, and it was wonderful to see such a captivating story performed by our Mustangs!

Looks like 7th grade had a great time working on their soap carvings as they study the common arts in Foundations of the Good Life. Can't wait to see the finished product!
