As part of Men's Health Month, we asked Assistant Professor Dr. Annie Lin to help us tackle a common nutrition myth.

Soy has been unfairly criticized for years because it contains compounds that are structurally similar to estrogen. However, research shows these compounds do not act like estrogen in the body and do not negatively affect male hormones or testosterone levels.
In fact, soy offers several health benefits:
โ๏ธ A complete protein containing all essential amino acids
โ๏ธ Heart-healthy fats
โ๏ธ Fewer calories than many animal protein sources
โ๏ธ Research linking it to a reduced risk of heart disease and prostate cancer
Sometimes the foods with the worst reputations deserve a second look.
Want to learn more about adding soy to your diet? Check out the resource linked in the comments below.
Thank you to Dr. Annie Lin for helping us separate nutrition myths from facts and sharing evidence-based information during Men's Health Month.

Congratulations to Dr. Gasper Kitange, Associate Professor at The Hormel Institute, on serving as a keynote speaker at the 21st Meeting of the Asian Society for Neuro-Oncology (A**O 2026) in Kanazawa, Japan.
Dr. Kitange shared his research on glioblastoma biology and therapeutic resistance with leading researchers and clinicians from around the globe. His work is helping advance our understanding of one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer and the search for more effective treatments.
We are proud to see Dr. Kitange representing The Hormel Institute on the international stage and helping drive discoveries that improve lives.

We were honored to have Dr. Branden Moriarity join us as a speaker at the 7th Annual Global Cancer Consortium Conference.
Breakthroughs happen through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to improving outcomes for patients.
Congratulations to Dr. Moriarity and his team on this exciting milestone, and thank you for sharing your work with the GCC community.

โIโm not in this for your sympathy. Iโm in this for your partnership.โ
That was the message shared by stage IV re**al cancer survivor and colore**al cancer advocate John Woerner during the 7th Annual Global Cancer Consortium.
As a patient advocate, mentor, and leader in the colore**al cancer community, John has dedicated his time to advancing research, supporting clinical trials, and helping fellow patients navigate their cancer journeys.
His message was a powerful reminder that progress happens when we work together. Behind every study, discovery, and breakthrough are people counting on science to deliver better treatments, better outcomes, and ultimately, cures.
Thank you, John, for sharing your perspective and reminding us why this work matters.

A powerful moment at the 7th Annual Global Cancer Consortium came from patient advocate Beth Lortz, who shared her experience living with stage IV ovarian cancer.
While discussing the importance of bringing patient voices into conversations about research and treatment, Beth reminded us that, โWhile statistics inform us, they do not define us.โ
She spoke candidly about the realities of a cancer diagnosis, but also about hope, resilience, and the importance of continued progress in cancer research.
โTo the scientists, researchers, and clinicians in the room, we deserve hope grounded in scientific progress.โ
Thank you, Beth, for sharing your story and reminding us why this work matters.

The beautiful floral arrangements featured throughout this year's Global Cancer Consortium were provided by one of our own, Tanner Conway, Shared Instruments Technician at The Hormel Institute and owner of Doodleโs Flower Farm.
Tanner's locally grown flowers added a special touch to the conference and helped create a welcoming atmosphere for researchers, advocates, patients, and guests from around the world.
We're grateful for the many talents our team members bring both inside and outside the Institute.

From southern Minnesota to the world!
For the first time, the Global Cancer Consortium is offering a virtual attendance option, allowing us to connect with researchers around the globe.
We're excited to welcome our first abstract award winner and virtual speaker, Dr. Andrew Ajisebutu of the University of Toronto and the University of Manitoba.
It's amazing to see researchers from different countries coming together to share ideas and discoveries, all with the goal of improving outcomes for patients facing metastatic cancer.

Today, we welcomed researchers, clinicians, advocates, and patients to The Hormel Institute for the 7th Annual Global Cancer Consortium.
Over the next two days, leading investigators from around the world will share discoveries that are helping us understand how cancer spreads and how we can develop more effective treatments for patients facing metastatic disease.
What makes this meeting special is that it brings together the scientists doing the work and the individuals living with metastatic cancer. Their stories remind us why every experiment, collaboration, and breakthrough matters.
Research is about more than data and discoveries. It's about people. By connecting researchers, patients, and advocates, we strengthen our shared purpose and keep the focus where it belongsโimproving and extending human life.
