This year, our scholarship has a new name and a powerful story behind it.
We are proud to rename our annual scholarship the Blake Cooper Memorial Scholarship in loving memory of Blake Cooper, a lifelong champion of Texas public education. Blake served as a teacher, coach, principal, superintendent, and as Executive Director of Friends of Texas Public Schools. He gave his career to public schools because he believed deeply in their power to change lives. Honoring his legacy through this scholarship feels like exactly the kind of work he would have championed.

Beyond the Classroom is a new documentary that tells the real story of how Texas school districts showed up for their communities during some of the most difficult moments imaginable. From the Hill Country floods to hurricanes and public health emergencies, schools became shelters, food distribution hubs, and lifelines for families.
