Congratulations to Ada Limón, who was just appointed United States Poet Laureate. Ada visited the Joynes Reading Room in 2019 and gave a beautiful reading.

Today in the Joynes Reading Room, the Undergraduate Creative Writing Program in the UT Dept of English honored student award winners and those who completed honors theses.

Poet Joanna Fuhrman, an alumna of the UT Plan II Honors Program, will visit Austin this week as part of her book tour. She'll be on campus Tuesday to speak with current students, and she'll be giving a public reading Saturday outside Reverie Books.

Congratulations to Reginald Dwayne Betts, one of the new MacArthur Fellows announced today. Dwayne visited the Joynes Room in 2019 for a luncheon with students, during a conference on prison abolition at UT's School of Law.

This Year's MacArthur 'Genius Grants' Were Just Announced—Here's The Full Winner List Yes, we know they're technically called "MacArthur Fellows." But for this group of artists, scientists and scholars, the term fits well enough as any other.

Natalie Diaz has twice visited the Joynes Reading Room--she's pictured here in 2017 reading from her first book, WHEN MY BROTHER WAS AN AZTEK. She also visited in 2019 for a Q&A roundtable discussion with the Joynes Living & Learning Community, where she previewed poems from her second book, POSTCOLONIAL LOVE POEM, which was recognized today by the Putlizer Board.
