Happy Diwali! Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, celebrating the victory of light over darkness. I have fond memories of celebrating Diwali in Varanasi in 2004, observing ceremonial dances and offerings along the Ganges and traveling by rickshaw through the streets as firecrackers burst all around. May light continue to pervade the darkness! Happy Diwali!

Cohen created a melody she loved that she didn’t want to forget, so she wrote it down! Though this notation doesn’t resonate with me, it was effective for her. This week we’ll work together to transpose it to the grand staff, add chords, and build a song!

All music is based on patterns, and by simply mapping those patterns a piece instantly becomes more manageable! Here’s a 2-page piece by Andrea Dow, color-coded in multiple ways to be more accessible to the student. Clara did a wonderful job mastering this piece last week!
