We had the BEST day with our friends from Deloitte last week! πŸŽ‰β€οΈ

They rolled up their sleeves and got to work helping us prepare for an exciting year ahead. In just one day, they:

βœ… Assembled 100 brand new student supply bags for new students

πŸ“š Wrapped 100 Mystery Keeper Books for our 25th Anniversary celebration in November

🍬 Packaged 300 candy gift boxes for our upcoming events

That is an absolutely incredible amount of work packed into one afternoon! These bags, books, and boxes represent Literacy Coalition's 25th Anniversary, and none of it would have been possible without the Deloitte team showing up and giving their time so generously.

Thank you, Deloitte! We are so grateful for your partnership. πŸ’š

We are so proud of the incredible students in our Ladies ELL class! πŸŽ‰πŸŒ

This amazing group comes from all corners of the world, and every single week, they show up, work hard, and push themselves to grow. Lately, we have been blown away by the leaps and bounds they have made in their English skills, holding conversations, expressing themselves with confidence, and connecting with their community in ways that were not possible before.

Watching these women find their voice is one of the greatest privileges of this work. πŸ’ͺ❀️

We see you, we celebrate you, and we could not be more proud of everything you have accomplished!

πŸŽ‰ Thank you to ImproveAbility for supporting Literacy Coalition and literacy in Central Texas!

Every quarter an ImproveAbility sets aside a portion of our profits for an employee to designate a donation to a non-profit. This quarter's $1,900.00 donation goes to Literacy Coalition of Central Texas Our Operations Administrator, Alyssa Goss, chose this non-profit due to her love of reading. Alyssa said "For someone who grew up loving books, reading isn’t just a hobby, it’s a gateway to freedom, knowledge, and connection. That’s why the Literacy Coalition of Texas matters so deeply. It works to ensure that others, no matter their age or background, have the same chance to experience the joy and empowerment that reading brings me. Supporting literacy means opening doors for people to tell their own stories, pursue opportunities, and feel included in a world that often takes reading for granted. For lifelong readers like myself, it’s a way of giving back to something that shaped who I am."

What a night! πŸ₯³βœ¨ We had the absolute best time at our Donor Social: From Opportunity to Impact!

We gathered with an amazing group of supporters for a cozy evening of delicious food, drinks, and some truly powerful student stories. Hearing firsthand how our programs have changed lives.

To everyone who joined us, THANK YOU. Your generosity is what turns opportunity into real, lasting impact for our students and our community.

A huge thank you to our board member Seth for opening up his home and making the evening feel so warm and welcoming, and to his sweet pup for greeting every single guest at the door like the true host she is! 🐾🐢

One year ago, Carlos joined the Literacy Coalition team, and our GED program has never been the same (in the best way possible)! πŸ™Œβ€οΈ

Over the past year, Carlos has poured his heart into transforming the way we teach and support our students. He modernized our approach, brought in new technology, and completely reimagined our GED curriculum. Because of his work, we're seeing more students enroll, more students pass, and more students feel genuinely cared for along the way.

We are so grateful for your heart, your dedication, and everything you do for our community. Here's to many more years! πŸŽ‰β€οΈ

Remembering three women who helped shape Austin 03/12/2026

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Retta Kelley van Auken, a founder of the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas and an extraordinary advocate for our community. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Back in 1997, Retta was among a small group of visionaries who gathered around a shared question: "How do we make sure every adult in Central Texas has access to literacy?" From that question, our organization was born. Retta served as Community Development Director at the Austin American-Statesman and was instrumental in building the partnerships and momentum that made the Literacy Coalition possible.

This Women's History Month, Austin is recognizing Retta for her lasting contributions to our city β€” and we are so grateful. She leaves behind a legacy that touches thousands of lives.

To her family and loved ones, we send our deepest condolences. And to Retta β€” thank you for believing that words have the power to transform lives. ❀️

Remembering three women who helped shape Austin As part of Women's History Month coverage, we honor three Austin leaders who died recently: Bernadette Phifer, Emma Lou Linn and Retta Kelley Van Auken.
