The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas breaks the cycle of intergenerational poverty through holistic literacy services. Low literacy impacts every facet of social life. When adults learn how to read, write, do basic math, improve their English skills, and learn how to use computers, they gain the power to lift themselves out of poverty, find sustainable employment, and help their children succee

Our services and partnerships create a bridge to opportunity through Adult Education, Career Development Education, and Family Education. "What does it mean to be literate in 2026? 🤔

We're still digging, and this week we found the answer.
Literacy is achieved with Career Literacy. 💼

Think about the last time you felt stuck at work. Passed over for a promotion. Stayed in a role long past the point it was serving you. That is not just an employment problem. That is a career literacy problem.

A job is the ability to earn an income. A career is a journey of growth. Both matter, but they are not the same thing. Confusing them is one of the most common ways adults get stuck. Career literacy is the final piece of the puzzle.

Career literacy is the final piece of the puzzle, bringing all six skills together: reading, writing, numeracy, digital, financial, and health literacy. Together, they don't just open doors. They keep them open.

As Literacy Coalition continues its quest for answers, we build on reading, writing, numeracy, digital, and financial literacy with Health Literacy.

Literacy deepens with health literacy… 🏥

You're sitting in a doctor's office. Your appointment ends in fifteen minutes. You nod, take the papers, walk out, and in the parking lot, you realize you're not entirely sure what you're supposed to do next.

Sound familiar? Nearly 9 out of 10 adults in the U.S. struggle with health literacy. Not one in ten. Nine out of ten.

Kylie came in ready to work and never stopped. Social media, graphic design, writing, editing, and event support. she did it all beautifully. She brought creativity, dedication, and the best attitude to everything she touched.

The question gets bigger the more we dive into literacy. This week, we build on reading, writing, numeracy, and digital literacy with Financial Literacy.

Literacy escalates with financial literacy… 💰

You made a financial decision today. Probably dozens of them. From buying groceries to paying a bill, or tapping your card for a much-needed morning coffee. For adults with strong financial literacy, those decisions build stability. For adults without it, the same decisions can quietly drain resources and deepen debt.

And it is not about irresponsibility. It is about access to knowledge.

Digital literacy is the ability to find information, evaluate its quality, and interpret and act on it effectively. It is not just knowing how to use your phone or computer.

Literacy builds with numeracy… 🔢

You felt the beat before you ever counted it. 🎵 Every rhythm, every melody, every song that makes you tap your foot — that's mathematics. And just like music, numbers are woven into every corner of daily life, whether we notice them or not.

Nearly 2 in 3 American adults operate below the numeracy level that most workplaces and daily life require. Numeracy is not about math class. It never was.

The gap between what someone can say out loud and what they can put on paper is one of the most painful and least visible consequences of limited writing skills. And yet thousands of adults in Texas are navigating daily life without the writing skills they need.
