Texas Education Agency AUSTIN- The Texas Education Agency today released accountability ratings for 8,526 public schools and 1,228 districts. The ratings are based on high school completion rates, dropout rates and passing rates on the state test, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).

STAAR rollout may bring more duties for Texas school counselors In the fall, the anticipated consequences of a $4 billion reduction in state financing to school districts will begin to become apparent to Texas students and their parents: fewer teachers, bigger classes and sparse extracurricular programs.
Introducing a series of workshops and presentations on curriculum alignment, STAAR assessment and special education topics, including preparing for AYP, STAAR assessments and Autism.

Attention Teachers and Administrators: When reviewing data from the 2010 TAKS tests, please note the following:
• 5th and 8th grade reading assessments were written using the old TEKS (used prior to 2009)
• 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th grade reading and 7th writing assessments were written using the new TEKS (used since 2009)
