61 years ago, our namesake, President Lyndon B. Johnson, signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965β€”a landmark piece of legislation that aimed to protect the right to vote for all Americans and eliminate discrimination at the ballot box. πŸ—³οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Together, the LBJ School and the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum honor President Johnson's legacy and continue the work to strengthen our democracy.

This summer, these Longhorns expanded their global perspectives as part of The Patman Center for Civic and Political Engagement’s Summer in Oxford Program. πŸ€˜πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

During their time in Oxford, students explored topics in democracy and policymaking, engaged with the rich traditions of one of the world’s most historic academic communities, and experienced the value of learning in an international setting.

They returned home with new perspectives, lasting friendships, and memories from a summer they won’t soon forget!

Andy Burnham is the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Just last year, while serving as Mayor of Greater Manchester, Burnham visited the Forty Acres to join a conversation at the LBJ School on the power of local leadership. Together, we discussed public transportation, economic growth, the Austin-Manchester sister city partnership, and the vital role mayors play in addressing global challenges.

We're proud to bring leaders from around the world to the LBJ School to exchange ideas and explore today's most pressing public policy issues. Hook 'em! 🀘
