Fun-loving instructor(s). Combination of ensemble playing and private instruction, all customized and tailored to individual needs.

The Franklin Music Academy has served fun and engaging music lessons to the South Austin community for years and is known to host entertaining recitals that family and friends can attend. We specialize in drum, bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, and vocals with an instrument and cover multiple genres of music. While most of our students are children ranging from age 6 to 18, we also teach music to adults.

Life & Work with Shani Montique-Ahmad of Austin 06/04/2026

While we were knee-deep in recitals last week, we quietly celebrated being featured in VoyageAustin. We were grateful for the opportunity to share a little of the story behind Franklin Music Academy, but decided to wait until our birthday on June 4th to share it with everyone.

What started as two people wanting more freedom, purpose, and autonomy over how music education should feel has grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined. Over the years, we’ve watched shy students become confident performers, families become lifelong friends, and music become a lasting part of so many students’ lives.

At Franklin Music Academy, our goal has never been to create professional musicians. We believe in the power of music to preserve culture, pass on tradition, and develop amateur artists who feel inspired to play music for a lifetime.

As we celebrate another year, we're especially grateful for every family, student, instructor, and supporter who has been part of this journey. Thank you for allowing us to do work that feels meaningful every single day. ❤️

An excerpt from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata played by one of our music students from our final Spring recital. A piece that never gets old and transcends time. Well done!

Most people overestimate what they can do in a week and underestimate what they can do in a few years.

The secret is usually less exciting than we want it to be:
just keep showing up.

This song is called 'Morning Theme', but can you imagine if your mornings actually sounded so peaceful like this?

Fitting for this time of year, sitting tall and confident this young pianist plays Spring Theme. Bravo!

The second performer of the night—and another first-time recital student.

He was VERY nervous before walking on stage, but once he sat at the piano and played, you never would’ve known. Calm, steady, and beautifully played from start to finish.

Our last and final set of pianists will be performing mostly traditonal and classical pieces this weekend in our Spring Recital. Can't wait to see them perform!
