The Texas State University System Board of Regents confirmed the appointment of Dr. John Hayek as president of Lamar State College - Port Arthur. Dr. Hayek, who has served as interim president since January, was unanimously confirmed at the board’s quarterly meeting in Austin.

The Texas State University System welcomes the appointment of Elizabeth Diaz Arreola, a Lamar University exercise science major, as the next TSUS Student Regent.

Appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, Ms. Diaz Arreola is one of eight student regents recently named to the governing boards of Texas’ public university systems and independent universities. She succeeds Texas State University student Donavan Brown, whose one-year term expires May 31.

Following spring commencement ceremonies, an estimated 12,824 students in the Texas State University System are receiving degrees — the largest combined graduating class in the System’s 115-year history and a 57% increase since 2015.

Congratulations to the students whose hard work, determination, and perseverance made this achievement possible, and to the faculty, staff, and leaders at TSUS institutions who supported them along the way.

Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall has appointed Dr. John Hayek as the next President of Lamar State College - Port Arthur, pending approval of the Board of Regents at its May 2026 meeting. Dr. Hayek has served as Interim President of Lamar State College Port Arthur since January 2026.

U.S. News & World Report ranked its Flex MBA
program No. 98 nationally among part-time MBA programs, up seven spots from last year and 33 spots since 2023.

U.S. News & World Report ranks McCoy College part-time MBA among nation’s best Texas State’s McCoy College Flex MBA ranks among U.S. News’ best for 2026, rising to #98 nationally and climbing 33 spots since 2023, with top rankings among public universities and in Texas.
