The One-

This is not about sports or being a former athlete. This is about being alive and being human.

Today is a day that is clearly defined in the minds of people. Either you love the day or you don’t.

Today is a day that exposes the hollow cavity in people that feel they don’t have someone with whom to share the day. There is always talk about finding the “one”.

Is the “one” out there? Am I ever going to find the “one”? I let the “one” slip away. Is there really the “one” for everyone?

I will tell you there is and it’s not who you think. You’ve been living with the “one” your whole life. You look at the “one” in the mirror everyday.

You are the “one”.

The story you tell yourself and the comfort you have with yourself will expose your level of love. When you truly, unconditionally, unequivocally love the “one” soul that resides inside of you, then life takes on a different meaning.

Take time to be alone. Get comfortable being with you. Take time being with the “one”. No more burying the things you don’t want to face and masking it in another relationship.

Face you. Embrace you. Love you

At that point all the other someone’s that come into your life will just add to your life. Whether you’re with someone besides yourself today or not, true love is what exists in how we love ourself.

Take yourself out on a dinner date, go for a walk in the park, buy yourself some flowers, right yourself a card, treat yourself to your favorite dessert. Be good to you today and give yourself the gift of selflove.

You are the “one”. Love that “one” first. You’re the “one” that matters most.

Share this with someone in search of “the one”❤️

Martin Luther King Jr Birthday 1/15/29

This home is where he was born near Downtown Atlanta. Being in the presence of this home, there is an overwhelming energy of hope, unity and peace. His life and work, cut too short, has impacted all of our lives and his greatness will continue to live.

As a society we have come a long way in hopes to bring his inspiring dream to fruition. Despite all that has happened, progress has been made. As a society we have to realize as far as we’ve come we have plenty of work still and it must be consistent.

Negative influences will always be there to cause regression and that is why we need to focus on progression. Everyday. No exceptions. There is no room for complacency.

We must create positive change to give his dream a chance at truly coming to fruition. So where does the change start? It starts with the person we see everyday in the mirror. If we look inside and question our own motives, we will all see that in order to progress to where we want to go, we can’t do what we’ve been doing.

Start each day with the intent of creating a positive experience for the world that surrounds us. Individual change can have a profound compounding effect and subconsciously give others around us the chance to change as well.

Alcohol isn’t the poison, the person consuming it is

I used to blame my poor decisions on drinking. Alcohol was my choice of numbing from the pains of regret after quitting sports and dealing with other trials of life.

It wasn’t until I finally took ownership that it was me making poor decisions not the alcohol that my relationship began to shift with alcohol.

Alcohol, as with almost anything when too much is consumed can have negative effects on our body, leading to poisoning affects. All alcohol does is magnify and act as a conduit for whatever you’re feeling.

If you have suppressed thoughts and emotions, they come to the surface and you tend to act of them. It’s not the alcohols fault you acted on them.

Stop blaming alcohol for your problems. Come to peace with your thoughts, emotions and traumas associated with alcohol and watch your relationship change with alcohol.

You’re less likely to overconsume when you do so in a healthy state.

As I deepen my commitment to innerstanding and healing, I formulated a program and routine that includes zero alcohol for 91 days amongst other things starting 1/7/24.

This isn’t part of the sober curious movement. It’s deepening my relationship with how and why I consume anything, not just alcohol.

I’d love your feedback on this. I realize this message may not resonate with everyone, and that’s ok. I realize this may trigger others, and that’s ok. I realize this may anger others, and that’s ok.

Part of my commitment to 2024 is to stoke the embers within and speak my truths about life. I invite you to do the same.

What’s Your Take?👇🏻

November is Men’s Mental Health Month

Movember, the movement to bring awareness to Men’s mental health, prostate and testicular cancer happens every year in November.

Did you know male su***de is 3x higher than in woman?

Why do you think that is?

Men suppress and repress emotions and feelings causing them to feel depressed.

For former athletes, even despite being mentally strong on the field they often don’t provide an outlet after sports to talk about the trials of post sports.

It’s why I do what I do as a mentor for former Ethelred and why I am raising money for the movement again this year.

I shaved my beard (yes I did) on 11/1/23 and am not shaving again until the 11/22/23 where I will reveal the mustache I leave for the rest of the month.

I am also committed to movement everyday of the month. Pickleball, working out, cardio, sports etc. everyday for atleast 60 minutes because:
(Stats show that 60 men commit su***de every hour)

Thank you for supporting this movement🤜🤛🔥

Improvise & Prioritize Exercise

One of the biggest issues former athletes struggle with after sports is sticking to a consistent routine with exercise.

Type of exercise, duration and frequency are key however the biggest key in all of it is simply getting your body in motion.

You need to eat healthy and then simply walking the neighborhood for 30-45 min can make a difference.

Not just in your physical body but with you psychological and physiological states.

Now, I’m a firm proponent of lifting. I still lift heavy weight for 3-5 sets and 8-10 reps consistenly because I know the longevity benefits as well as the metabolic benefits.

If weights simply isn’t your thing, find out the thing(s) you enjoy.

Most importantly move your body. Movement is medicine.

Start slow and small and within 3 months you’ll be feeling like a new person💪🏻

What are your favorite ways to move your body?

The Path Forward

Is your path one that has been forged by others?

Is your path one that you have the machete out and are clearing the way?

Ideally, finding a balance between both is key…

Former Athletes often struggle with knowing their path because they didn’t plan ahead.

The lack of planning landed them fulfilling someone else’s path, leaving them in life of quiet desperation.

AND, it's important to note it's not too late to shift the direction of your path.

Success leaves clues. Follow those that have been successful before you then eventually clear out your own path.

While on the path look for signs. There are signs everywhere.

The signs can show up anywhere. Just pay attention. This may be one of them.

What are your next steps in your path forward? Drop me a comment below👇🏻

World Mental Health Day 10/10

I know my focus is on transitioning athletes/former athletes into the world after sports. However, we are all working through something.

Some of us hide it better than others.

Some of us have worked through it for longer and have healthier tools to use when s**t hits the fan.

Some on the surface and in social look like their s**ts together and yet they’re going through the same s**t.

If you or someone you know is struggling. Be a strength for them. Be an ear. Not a voice. Rather an ear.

They don’t need your advice unless they ask for it. They need to unpack. They need to feel seen and heard. They need to feel loved. They need to love themselves.

They need to release shame and guilt. They need to forgive. They need to embrace and own and love who they are and all they’ve been through.

Your mental health is impacted by many things and more times than not attached to a traumatic experience of your past.

You can have a strong mindset and still struggle with anxiety and depression.

You need more than a strong mindset. Your mindset is only as strong as the level at which you’ve dealt with your traumas.

Come to peace with your past.
Fully accept.
Fully forgive.

From this state joy, love and peace will express and expand.

You are enough.

I get asked this often…

“So do you focus only on one sport, when you work with former athletes?”

The question is completely valid.

In a world where we strive to be an expert in one particular area, we are all niching down to focus on one acute area.

And although I contemplated it, in speaking to and interviewing former athletes in over a dozen sports, there is a consistent recurring theme.

There is a sense of loss. A loss of identity, a loss of purpose. A loss of structure. A loss of exiting a world they’ve known for most their life. A loss of daily exercise. The list of loss goes on…

And it is in that sense of loss that is the focus. Nearly every formwr athlete faces this. Many never deal with it. They bury their emotions and navigate into a world away from sports and it creates a world of underlying concerns.

It’s here where the common thread is a cause to unite. To create a space and environment to be seen and heard as a former athlete.

0 Judgement.
100 Acceptance.

Acceptance of what was. Acceptance of what is. Acceptance of what’s next.

You are powerful. You are purposeful. You are prosperous.

Being the athlete will always be a part of you. Being the best version of you after sports is the new mission and we are here to support.🔥

Are You Living bItter or bEtter

There is more depth to the slides above, this only touches the surface of my thoughts on the topic.

I’ve said this for years, about 7 to be exact. I’m posting this again because I was reminded of a moment when I was 13.

I was at a celebrity softball game with some of the biggest baseball stars.

One player, who everyone wanted an autograph from, came out after the game and told the crowd “leave me alone, I don’t have time for you”.

That moment stuck with me as I said if I ever had the opportunity to be in his shoes I would never do that.

I squandered my opportunity but the impression it left was indelible.

Would love to know your thoughts on the slides above. Comment below🔥
