Most of the reps in this clip are not perfect. This is normal.
We froze the frames where he found his optimal movement patterns, the ones that fit his body. We all have to swing our arms to run, and we all put our own fingerprint on how we move.
That fingerprint is what feels right to you mixed with what you have been exposed to. More often than not, you were never taught these patterns. What you are doing is your imitation of what you think the right movement looks like.
Question: Who taught you how to swing your arms when you run?
For the few of you who had someone coach you through it, what did they teach you to do? Were you ever exposed to any different methods?
Two decades of doing this let me get it wrong plenty of times, and I evolved along the way. Working with athletes across ages, sports, backgrounds, and upbringings is where you start to see what is universal, what actually helps, and what is actively working against developing this skill.
We all default to our primal movement patterns, and primal usually means raw and uncorrected. Just because we are used to something does not make it right for us. Stack a bad pattern over and over and it costs us more than performance. It is what quietly builds the injuries that seem to pop up out of nowhere.
You cannot think your way out of a movement pattern. You have to feel it. Two8 Bands are the most effective solution I have found thus far. You can feel them guiding you into proper movement patterns, rep after rep, until the quality reps start to outnumber the bad ones.
