Donโ€™t know your actual retirement number? Thatโ€™s not a small oversight โ€” ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ญโ€™๐ฌ ๐š ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐ข๐œ ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ค.
Most high earners assume theyโ€™re โ€œon trackโ€ because they have a 401k, a brokerage account, maybe even a financial advisor managing investments.
But when I ask one simple question
โ€” they donโ€™t know.
And thatโ€™s dangerous.
Because retirement math isnโ€™t just about hitting some random portfolio number.
Inflation changes the math.
Taxes change the math.
Healthcare changes the math.
And lifestyle creep absolutely changes the math.
Hereโ€™s the real way to calculate your retirement number:
1๏ธโƒฃ First, determine the annual lifestyle income you actually want in retirement โ€” not just your current expenses, but the lifestyle you plan to live.
2๏ธโƒฃ Second, adjust that number for inflation over your working runway.
If youโ€™re 42 and retiring at 62, youโ€™re not funding todayโ€™s lifestyle. Youโ€™re funding inflated future dollars.
3๏ธโƒฃ Third, factor in taxes based on where your money is held.
Pre-tax accounts, after-tax accounts, and tax-free accounts all behave differently.
If you donโ€™t plan withdrawals strategically, your โ€œretirement numberโ€ is wrong before you even start.
4๏ธโƒฃ And fourth, account for sequence risk โ€” the first five years of retirement matter more than the last twenty. A poor withdrawal strategy early on can permanently damage your portfolio.
If you havenโ€™t run those numbers, youโ€™re not planning retirement.
๐’€๐’๐’–โ€™๐’“๐’† ๐’‰๐’๐’‘๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ.
If youโ€™d like the exact retirement number worksheet I use with $250K+ earners, comment โ€œ๐๐”๐Œ๐๐„๐‘โ€ and Iโ€™ll send it over.

Itโ€™s the time freedom & financial freedom that got me ๐Ÿคฉ

If youโ€™re making over $250,000 a year and your entire wealth strategy is โ€œmax out the 401k and let my broker handle the rest,โ€ thatโ€™s not a strategy.
Thatโ€™s delegation without architecture.
Now โ€” investment management matters.
But investment management and wealth strategy are not the same thing.
A broker manages assets.
A strategist designs structure.
๐‡๐ž๐ซ๐žโ€™๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ข๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž:
Asset management asks:
โ€œHow do we grow this money?โ€
Wealth architecture asks:
โ€œWhere should this money live in the first place?
If all your capital is flowing into pre-tax retirement accounts and taxable brokerage accounts, you may be unintentionally creating:
๐Ÿ˜ฌ Future tax concentration
๐Ÿ˜ฌ Limited liquidity
๐Ÿ˜ฌ And withdrawal rigidity in retirement
High earners donโ€™t usually have an income problem.
Before optimizing returns, you should optimize positioning.
Because a well-structured 6% return can outperform a poorly structured 8% return after taxes and friction.
My role isnโ€™t to replace your advisor. โŒ
Itโ€™s to ensure your capital has a coordinated blueprint before itโ€™s deployed.
If you want to see what a real wealth map looks like for $250K+ earners, comment โ€œ๐’๐“๐‘๐€๐“๐„๐†๐˜โ€ and Iโ€™ll send you an example framework.

02/23/2026

If youโ€™re earning over $250,000 a year and your entire college plan is โ€œjust max out the 529,โ€ thatโ€™s not necessarily strategy โ€” thatโ€™s default thinking.
But for high-income families, they are often incomplete.
Hereโ€™s why:
A 529 locks money into a very specific lane.
It grows tax-advantaged โ€” which is great โ€”
but it also limits flexibility.
If your child doesnโ€™t need all of it,
if they get scholarships,
if they choose a different path,
or if legislation changesโ€ฆ
Youโ€™ve overfunded with a lot of money in a bucket that has tons of rules.
Thus giving up optionality, and increasing your risk.
First, liquidity.
How accessible is the money if life doesnโ€™t go according to plan?
2๏ธโƒฃ Second, opportunity cost.
If you aggressively fund a 529, what higher-yield or more flexible vehicles are you not funding instead?
3๏ธโƒฃ Third, tax diversification.
If all your college dollars live in one tax structure, youโ€™ve reduced your maneuverability later.
The goal isnโ€™t just to โ€œpay for college.
Most families earning $250K+ donโ€™t have a college funding problem.
They have a strategy problem.
And those are very different things.
If youโ€™d like to see three alternative structures high-income families use to fund college more strategically, ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ โ€œ๐‚๐Ž๐‹๐‹๐„๐†๐„โ€ and Iโ€™ll send it over.
