On my way to work today, something hit me.

We’ve been defining people pleasing wrong.

The world says it’s about putting others before yourself. And yes that’s part of it. But that definition leaves out the most important piece.

What if people pleasing isn’t just prioritizing others over you?

What if it’s prioritizing the needs, feelings, and opinions of people, including your own, above God’s?

That changes everything.

Because now the confident woman with the boundaries? She can still be a people pleaser, if her reference point is herself instead of God.

The woman who matches the room, follows the crowd, waits to see what everyone else is doing before she decides? People pleaser.

And the cure isn’t self-confidence.

It’s surrender.

Galatians 1:10 says it plainly — “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Paul didn’t say the opposite of people pleasing is finding yourself.

He said it’s serving Christ.

So the question isn’t just — who are you putting first?

The question is — whose eyes are you living under?

Over the last few years, I’ve learned how to surrender in ways I never imagined. I’ve learned how to let God mend places in my heart I didn’t even know were wounded. I’ve learned what it means to build new friendships in my 30s and 40s, to let people in again, to trust again, to heal again.

And through every tear, every transition, every uncomfortable stretch… God was setting me up.

Not for destruction.
Not for delay.
But for my glow up.

What felt like breaking was actually rebuilding.
What felt like loss was actually preparation.
What felt like isolation was actually consecration.

And now, I’m stepping into a brand new season back in Houston, Texas with expectancy, faith, and gratitude for everything God has done in me.

There’s something deeply personal about a foreword… because it’s not just written, it’s witnessed.

As I prepare for my book launch on May 16th in Houston, I found myself reflecting on the woman who helped shape not just my voice, but my confidence to use it.
