After months of planning, planting, building, and growing, we are so excited to officially share our new outdoor classroom with our Angels Care families!

Made possible through the Bright Green Future Grant and our Growing Green Futures: Sustainability & Stewardship project, this space was created to give our children opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with nature every day.

Our outdoor classroom now features a vegetable garden, a Monterrey Oak, a Texas Oak, bilingual English and Spanish learning signs, and hands-on STEM exploration opportunities. More than just a garden, it is a place where children can observe how plants grow, discover insects and pollinators, ask questions, use their imagination, and develop a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

One of our goals was to create a space that encourages curiosity, responsibility, and environmental stewardship from an early age. We hope this garden becomes a place filled with discoveries, conversations, memories, and meaningful learning experiences for years to come.

We are incredibly grateful to the Bright Green Future Grant for helping make this vision a reality and to everyone who supported this project along the way.

🌱 Something special has been growing at Angels Care… 🌱

Thanks to the Bright Green Future Grant, our project, “Growing Green Futures: Sustainability & Stewardship,” is beginning to come to life at Angels Care & Learning Center – Maufrais.

What was once an open area of our playground is slowly becoming a bilingual outdoor classroom filled with nature, curiosity, and hands-on learning opportunities for our students. Over the past weeks, we have been planting, building garden beds, preparing the soil, adding learning signs, and creating a space designed to grow alongside our children.

The goal of Growing Green Futures: Sustainability & Stewardship is to help students connect with nature from an early age by giving them opportunities to care for plants, observe how things grow, learn about trees and pollinators, and understand the importance of taking care of the environment. 🌳🥕🐝

This project includes:
✨ A vegetable garden
✨ Native Texas Trees
✨ Bilingual English & Spanish learning signs
✨ Outdoor STEM exploration opportunities
✨ A shaded outdoor learning space for our students

We are so excited to continue sharing the process with our families and can’t wait to show the finished garden soon. 💚

🕊️ En Amoroso Recuerdo de Belkis Melendez

Esta mañana perdimos a alguien verdaderamente especial, una mujer que tocó con su calidez, fortaleza y luz a todos quienes la rodeaban. Belkis nunca dejó de luchar para superar su enfermedad, con valentía, fe y fortaleza que siempre inspiró a quienes la rodeaban. Incluso en los días más difíciles, nunca perdió la esperanza.

Era de esas personas que iluminaban cualquier lugar con su presencia. Siempre rodeada de amigos y familia, siempre el corazón de cada reunión.

Gracias, Belkis, por tu dedicación en el salón de clases, por tu amistad y por la calidez que le brindaste a todos los que te conocieron. Si tuviste la suerte de probar su comida, lo sabes, sus hallacas y los sabores de Venezuela que compartió con tanta generosidad son algo que jamás olvidarás.

Rezamos por su eterno descanso, y pedimos fortaleza y consuelo para su familia, amigos y todos los que la amaron durante este tiempo de pérdida.

🕊️ In Loving Memory of Belkis Melendez

This morning, we lost someone truly special, a woman whose warmth, strength, and light touched everyone around her. Belkis never stopped fighting to overcome her illness, with courage, faith, and strength that always inspired those around her. Even through the hardest days, she never gave up hope.

She was the kind of person who made every room feel fuller. Always surrounded by friends and family, always the heart of the gathering.

Thank you, Belkis, for your dedication in the classroom, for your friendship, and for the warmth you brought to everyone who knew you. If you were lucky enough to try her food, you know, her hallacas and the flavors of Venezuela she so generously shared were something you will never forget.

We lift a prayer for her eternal rest, and for strength and comfort for her family, friends, and all who loved her during this time of loss.
