All right, hustlers. get out of bed. It’s almost noon. creative writing block? show got canceled? forgot your lyrics? Forgot your whole lesson plan? did the unthinkable and left her books at home when that requirement is strictly enforced on all of your students? 😬 you need to hear this:
1. DANCE IT OUT, quit being a wimp and know that your students absorb (almost) everything — including negative energy and personal hygiene habits. let’s try to not all look like we just woke up out of a tent today mmmk?
🫡 Now continue on, soldiers. We’re on the front lines of the music education industry in THE LIVE ME THE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. do you want this next generation to think something else, other than playing or learning music, will make them more attractive to all of their future crushes? Hell no. This goes without saying as well, but don’t mention how much you make. That ‘doesn’t matter’, and we may lie to ourselves, but there are more important things in this business and in life than money.

Only certain types of people can do a job like this or do things that benefit another human that may come at a cost to ourselves.
WE are musicians, we are performers, we are writers, we are teachers, creators, leaders, mentors, and role models. And we are tired. but who can blame us? No one because we have a better job than them. We do what we love every day, even if we are working to make ends meet, we’re doing it for a good reason. MUSIC IS ESSENTIAL, For you AND your students.
SO GOOD LORD, RALLY ALREADY! Don’t ruin music for a child just because you’re having a bad day. in fact, I’ve learned you can make a fun game of it and let them ruin your day instead. here’s one of many ways: perhaps by wearing make up to class or for some of us, maybe just brushing your hair and wearing clothes that inspire confidence, not comfort and leisure. Distract yourself from the outside world by enduring the lost looks of confusion and repetitive questions like, “what’s wrong with your face?” Or “ why do you look like that??” and if that doesn’t give you a chuckle, lie! You’re a performer just chuckle. 🥸
for some of us this would be embarrassing but for musicians and music teachers, especially both, we do our jobs not for ourselves, but for the Students. and when you do something for someone else like giving them the gift of music… let them give you a gift of the painful reminder of how much we endure for what we love.
REPEAT THIS MANTRA THRICE (x3):
“ I was born to do this. music is my passion. at least I don’t work add a job about to be taken over by much more capable robots at the Amazon shipment fulfillment Center”
YES THREE TIMES, DAG NABBIT! it’s wordy but by the third time, I guarantee you’ll have said it three times. and that’s a win for the day already, boo. look at YOU… achieving things and s**t.
NOW GO CRUSH IT TODAY!
