The old saying goes like this “Practice makes perfect.” Though perfection can never be achieved, we may get pretty close to it.
•
Taking the necessary time each week to keep well acquainted with the feel of our shot can make the difference between taking a shot or waiting, or more so between hitting our mark and wounding an animal.
•
Being comfortable with our weapon of choice will make you a better hunter. Not having confidence in your abilities will brave you guessing before the shot and can cause target panic. We don’t want that.
•
Consistent practice also allows us to set our egos aside and use our experience behind the bow or rifle to make the shot happen rather than going off what we think we should be able to do because someone else did it on YouTube.

|| MAINTENANCE ||

Taking the time to do preventative maintenance on our muscles allows us the benefit of minimizing the risk of injury from training. We have talked about foam rolling before as one of these great ways to keep the muscles pliable. Another great way to eliminate tightness in our muscles is what is called percussion therapy.
•
Percussion therapy uses a device such as a those made by or to target specific areas of the body that are prone to tightness. Muscle release is accomplished by a high RPM oscillation which forces the target muscles to relax and lengthen. Taking a few minutes after a workout each day to hit areas that seem to be lagging or areas hard to reach with a foam roller provides an effective means of facilitating quicker recovery.

The high aerobic capacity that we gain from our programmed endurance running is essential to maintaining a fresh feeling when backcountry hunting. Being able to push each day further and harder than the average hunter allows us to increase the odds of success as well as the number of days needed in order to find the animal we seek.
•
So many hunters will wear out after a few miles each day of hard hiking. Being prepared in advance by doing the necessary endurance work during the rest of the year will allow us to gain an advantage and find success where others fall short.

|| MADE FOR THE MOUNTAINS ||

There are few animals alive today who inhabit such desolate and treacherous landscape as the Mid-Asian Ibex.
•
They are one of the most exciting and sought after species of ibex due to the brutal nature of the hunt which may very well be near 20,000ft in elevation on steep scree fields, the sense of accomplishment from completing such a hunt, and the deep level of respect acquired from getting the chance to pursue such a magnificent animal in its natural habitat.
•
This is definitely a hunt you want to extensively train for well in advance.

You’re not just average. You’re made to be something greater. Going on a backcountry hunt is hard. Making it a consistent hobby is even harder. Deciding you are going to train all year for said hobby takes discipline. Whoever said an easy life is a good life doesn’t understand the feeling you get from overcoming struggle. Doing the necessary hard things in life are what gives perspective and a deeper sense of value.
