Thank you to our students, family, teachers, and hosts at Walsh MS for an outstanding week at Austin Horn Camp! We hope that our students had as much fun as we did teaching and leading.
It might not look like it, but there are over 70 horn players in this photo. Hopefully we’ll see you all again next year!

A huge thank you to Professor Patrick Hughes from UT Austin for presenting a High Horn masterclass to our high school students at Austin Horn Camp! Our students are incredibly fortunate to learn from Professor Hughes and are more motivated and confident playing in the high range of the horn with his knowledge!

Incredible news, high school horn friends! Patrick Hughes, Associate Professor of Horn at UT Austin, will be making a guest appearance at the AHC 2024 high school session! We are incredibly excited and grateful!

With a tone and musicality described as “pure chocolate”, Patrick Hughes has soloed in recitals throughout the US, at annual regional horn conferences, and at many International Horn Symposia. In 2006 he performed the Asian premiere of Kazimierz Machala’s Concerto for Horn, Winds and Percussion in Bangkok, Thailand. Other international ventures have included performances in Jamaica, China, Australia, the UK, Belgium, Brazil, and Canada. He has been a featured soloist with various ensembles at the University of Texas as well as the Northwestern University Percussion Ensemble, the St. Olaf Orchestra, and the Dallas Wind Symphony. The Dallas Morning News described Hughes as “…a dream soloist…His tone was warm and honeyed, his virtuosity and legato both apparently effortless.”
At the University of Texas Mr. Hughes is the Associate Professor of Horn, Head of the Brass Wind and Percussion Division, and Director of the UT Horn Choir. He also enjoys an active and varied musical life as a clinician, soloist, and chamber and free-lance musician. Additionally, he has composed a number of pieces for horn ensemble and horn in chamber music including: From Hildegard, Dancing on the Hill, True Colors, Pange Lingua, and Climbin’. His music is published through Brownwood Music Publishing.

AHC 2024 registration is still open, sign up today!
