With the dream of forwarding the heritage of Kathak to the coming generations, in year 1994 , Ms Sheetal Dhanani established Tarana academy of Dance & Music . The academy which was started with Kathak is now flourishing in various forms of dances. Tarana Dance Academy operates at three locations:
1. Bartlett/ Schaumburg
3. Oakbrook/ Burr Ridge
At Naperville, Tarana Academy’s dance studio is the first ever self-owned Kathak dance studio of Chicagoland area. At the same time their other classes are also running in professional studios which provides professional environment for students. Periodically various experts are invited to the academy for workshops to facilitate students growth and advancement. Tarana Academy has a team of special musicians, who exclusively composes music for Tarana students. Academy organizes its own recital at performing art center, annually. Tarana Academy also provides opportunities for students to perform at various charity, social, corporate events & festivals, which help them in personality development. For these performances academy has 400plus costume inventories. Tarana Dance Academy has its structure curriculum, . Annual examinations are conducted and certificates are provided on the successful completion but it is not mandatory, as it gives each student to grow individually and set their own goal. Today, Academy has students from the age of 5 years old to adults who are pursuing their passion. So far, almost 50 students completed their “Rangmanch Pravesh ” (Graduation in Kathak) which is the highest number of students graduated from any Chicagoland Kathak school.

But there is one beautiful language that can take us beyond every boundary — Dance and Music. 💃🎶

This year, experience the magic of Tarana’s Annual Recital, where 400+ talented students will come together on one stage with their teachers to present a truly unique concept through dance, music, storytelling, and choreography.

Our dancers will take you on a journey beyond the boundaries we experience in everyday life — reminding us that when we dance, we are free to dream, express, connect, and soar.

For more than 32 years, Tarana has been dedicated to bringing Indian classical dance and music to generations of students in the Chicagoland community. Established in 1994 by Guru Sheetal Dhanani, Tarana today serves more than 400 students across three locations. (TARANA SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND DANCE)
