🏐 **WHAT A WEEK FOR WARHAWK VOLLEYBALL!** 💙

Three days of games, plenty of tough competition, and a great finish to the week!

Tuesday, our girls took on **RoundGrove** and suffered their **first loss of the season**. It wasn't the result we wanted, but every season brings opportunities to learn, adjust, and get better.

Thursday, we traveled to face **OCA**. Both our **JV and Varsity girls battled hard** and fought all the way through, but in the end we came up just short.

Then came **Friday night in Berryville!** 🔥

What a way to finish the week! Our **Boys, JV Girls, and Varsity Girls all brought home victories against Calvary Christian!** 🏐🏐🏐

After a long week of volleyball, seeing all three teams finish Friday night with wins was a great way to cap it off.

Proud of the effort and fight from all of our Warhawks this week. Now we get back to work and keep building!

Character formation done well isn't a poster on the wall. It's a habit, practiced together, over and over, until it becomes who your kids actually are.

You don't need a curriculum guide to be part of this. Just ask: "What virtue are you on?" "What's your intention this week?" Older students will have a written intention statement, ask to see it.

That one question at dinner reinforces everything we're doing here Monday through Friday.

Here's the lineup for the year: Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, Temperance, Faith, Hope, and we
close in the spring with Love, because love is what holds all the others together.

Colossians 3:14 says to put on love, "which binds everything else in perfect unity." That's not an
accident in how we sequenced this. By the time your kids reach Love, they'll have spent the
whole year building the other six virtues first.

We're also tying this to the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5. The virtues are the goal. The Fruit
is the evidence that God is the one doing the work.

Willard gave us a pattern for how transformation works. He called it VIM: Vision, Intention,
Means.

Vision — you have to see clearly what you're aiming for. You can't want to become wise, or just,
or loving, if you've never seen what that looks like.

Intention — seeing isn't enough. At some point you decide. Without a real decision, vision just
stays a daydream.

Means — then you need actual practice. Concrete habits that retrain how you think, feel, and
act.

Every virtue at Oakwood gets five weeks built on exactly this pattern: a week to see it, a week to
commit to it, two weeks to practice it, and a week to reflect and celebrate growth.

Congratulations to our Oakwood Warhawks on a great win over Legacy Academy! Way to start building momentum early in the season. We're proud of the hard work, teamwork, and effort our players showed on the court!

This year, every grade at Oakwood, PreK through 12th, is working through the same seven
virtues at the same time: prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, faith, hope, and love.

When we're in "Fortitude Week," fortitude is the conversation everywhere. Classrooms, chapel,
hallways, hopefully your dinner table too.

We built this on Dallas Willard's framework from Renovation of the Heart. His core insight:
becoming like Christ isn't willpower, and it isn't passively waiting for God to change you. It's
cooperative. We practice, and the Spirit does the actual transforming work.

You may have noticed our name doesn't include the word "Christian." That's on purpose. Putting "Christian" in a school's name signals one of two things: either you're just like every

other Christian school people already have a picture of in their head, or you think people can't

tell you're Christian without being told. Neither one is who we want to be.

Here's what we believe instead: we can teach every child the full substance of the faith and let
them make an informed decision for themselves. We don't pressure decisions out of kids to feel
like we've done our job. We want students to choose to follow Christ because they've seen what
His presence actually does in a life, not because they were told to or scared into it.

That means going straight at the hard questions, honestly, without an agenda.

Here's a statistic every Christian school should sit with: roughly two-thirds of young adults raised
in the church drift away for at least a year between the ages of 18 and 22 (Lifeway Research),
and nearly two-thirds have disengaged from church involvement as adults (Barna Group).

Christian schools have existed since the 1960s. You'd think six decades of Christian education
would have solved this by now. It hasn't.

The two organizations point to different pieces of the problem. Lifeway's research points to a
relevance and credibility gap: the top reasons young adults give for leaving are that church
members seemed judgmental or hypocritical, they didn't feel connected to people at church, and
they disagreed with the church's stance on political or social issues.

Barna's research points to something else: shallow spiritual foundations. Their studies found
young Christians describe their faith formation as shallow, and over a third say they've never felt
like they could bring their hardest questions into church.

Different data, same conclusion: a lot of young people are leaving because church didn't feel
real, and because when they did, they didn't have the depth to hold onto it. That's the problem
Oakwood was built to answer.
