🎃👻 The AES PTO Halloween Dance was a huge success! We loved seeing so many of our students having fun, dancing, and enjoying the evening with their friends!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who attended and to all of the volunteers who helped plan, set up, and make the dance such a fun event for our AES families. We appreciate your time and support in making these special memories possible!

Good choices at Aurora Elementary School now earn AES Bucks, and the bucks pay off at the Positive Behavior Store! Students earn them for being kind, acting responsibly, attending school regularly, and helping with school jobs. 💵

When students recently went shopping, they had to do the math. Each one worked out whether they had enough bucks for an item, and some decided to save up for a bigger prize instead. They had a great time, and they practiced budgeting along the way.

You can help stock the store! On Wednesday, October 14th, from 4:00 to 8:00pm, Skyline Chili at 714 Eads Parkway in Lawrenceburg will donate 20% of your total purchase to the AES Positive Behavior Store. Mention the AES fundraiser when you order.

Need a dinner plan for Wednesday, October 14th? Aurora Elementary School is hosting a Dine to Donate Night at Skyline Chili, 714 Eads Parkway in Lawrenceburg, from 4:00 to 8:00pm!

Kindergarten centers can look like play, and that's part of why they work! Mrs. Conner's students at Aurora Elementary School rotated through apple-themed activities in groups of three, practicing their skills the whole time.

Because the groups were small, each student got to take part and learn alongside classmates. Apple centers made practice something the kids looked forward to. 🍎

Sound it out at one table, alphabetize at another — Mrs. Patton's first-graders at Aurora Elementary School split into small groups this week, some sounding out words letter by letter while others put a whole list of "o" words in order.

Different tasks, same goal: building the phonics, spelling, and early reading skills that make every book after this one a little easier.

A big thank you to the Aurora Fire Department for visiting Aurora Elementary School! Our students had a great time learning important fire safety tips and getting an up-close look at the fire trucks and equipment.

We appreciate our local firefighters for taking the time to teach, answer questions, and help our students learn how to stay safe. ❤️🚒

This year, Aurora Elementary is headed to South America. ✈️

Ms. Friedhoff takes her students to a different continent each year, exploring the culture, history, and art along the way. So far, they've studied the Amazon Rainforest and the Amazon River, with Día de los Mu***os, "The Day of the Dead," still ahead.

Every grade has its own subject, and they're all working in mixed media:
🌎 Kindergarten and 1st grade are studying the jeweled lizard, found in Chile.
🌎 2nd and 3rd grade are creating abstract orchids, a nod to the 4,000-plus orchid varieties found in Ecuador.
🌎 4th and 5th grade took on the anaconda, which can grow past 30 feet. That's roughly the length of a school bus.

Some students have even volunteered to take apple crates home to paint as pieces of the Amazon River.

We can't wait to see the rainforest come together at Knight of the Arts this year!

Our student leaders at South Dearborn Middle School and Aurora Elementary School joined forces to raise $1,000 for the Imagination Library of Dearborn County, honoring Dolly Parton's lifelong commitment to literacy. At roughly $1.30 per book, that's about 770 books headed to local kids.

To celebrate, students and staff marked September 25 as Wear Pink Day. Then they took it a step further: SDMS student leaders visited classrooms throughout Aurora Elementary to Drop Everything and Read with their younger Knights.

We're so proud of these young leaders for showing what students can do when they decide to make a difference.

Parents and guardians: Children from birth to age 5 can receive a free, age-appropriate book mailed to their home each month. Check availability and enroll through the official Imagination Library website.

Community members: Donations help put more books in the hands of Dearborn County kids, and you can designate your gift to a specific local program partner.

Mrs. Cady's first-graders at Aurora Elementary School practiced their phonics on Chromebooks this week and broke into small groups to read together with their teacher.

That one-on-one time made the difference — sounding out words out loud, getting help in the moment, and building fluency and comprehension along the way.

It's the kind of practice that turns sounding out words into actually reading them and understanding the collective meaning they convey.
