Illinois requires hands-on beauty and wellness professionals to complete an approved abnormal skin growth course, such as the free online Skinny on Skin program by IMPACT Melanoma. The training teaches professionals how to spot potential melanomas and advise clients to see a doctor.

Who Needs the Certification:

Cosmetologists, estheticians, nail technologists, massage therapists, barbers, hair braiders, and electrologists.

Key Rule Details:

Effective Date: Applies to original license applicants and first license renewals or restorations on or after January 1, 2026.

Time Commitment: Takes about one hour to complete online.

Purpose: Focuses purely on early visual awareness, empowering professionals to suggest medical evaluations without diagnosing clients themselves.
