Twigs N Berries Farm School

Twigs N Berries Farm School Welcome to Twigs n Berries Farmschool. We are a year round, Reggio inspired preschool with influences of the Waldorf (Steiner) and Montessori Approaches.

Here at Twigs 'n Berries, we are fortunate to have 20 acres of learning environment at our fingertips. As a Farmschool, we learn about nature, gardening, livestock, the lifecycle, and what it takes to live on a farm! Our century old farmhouse lies in the shadow of two ancient Red Oaks, and we have ΒΌ acre dedicated specifically to the children's needs and gardening.

Balloons! We had some left over balloons from Rocki's Leap Day Birthday so we put them to good use. I asked the kids to see how many balloons they could pick up at once. This was so much fun and hilarious to watch. Everyone was counting and helping each other out handing over the balloons. 🎈

Guess what season it is?!?!

Shroom Season πŸ„

We have been taking walks and patiently waiting for the mushrooms to pop up. Today was the day! We can't wait to see more in the next few weeks.

It's been a fun start to our year! We have exciting new activities like Playdough Letters, Magnet Blocks, and Lock and Keys. The children also like to explore, stack, measure and design at our Loose Parts table.

We have been talking about Harvest lately, especially harvesting apples and pears. We painted our interpretation of apples and displayed them on our wall. Also we have learned the parts to an apple: skin, stem, core, seeds, and leaf. When talking about these we are also learning our letters, numbers and colors through a more organic approach!

Since we are harvesting our own garden, the students wanted to make a Farmer's Market. Rocki and Azalea did a great job making our sign. Many of the items that are sold in the market have been donated items or things we have found outside. Dorothy's family donated some golf balls that we use as apples. We spent some time looking for acorns, small sticks, colorful leaves and flowers that are displayed for the kids to sell and use in "potions" when we are outside. This has been such a fun and exciting unit to study.

One of my goals for this year was to post more updates on what we've been up to. For lack of a better term, here is our photo dump from January to mid March.

We have been learning about winter and just when we started to wrap it up, it SNOWED ❄️. It made a perfect way to complete that unit.

We had a Valentine's day party where we had lots of family visitors to help out. Thank you for helping, we had such a fun day.

To start out SPRING, we have been learning about birds! We have made nests out of paper AND a huge eagle nest outside! We also had some baby chicks visit us.

Also, baby goats! 🐐

It looks like the weather is going to start cooperating to start talking more about spring things like planting! 🌷🌹🌺🌻🌼

Here are some of our outdoor adventures this week! There was a lot of extra energy seeing our friends again, so we decided to take the trucks to the barkchip pile and run it out. On the way we found a few puddles, a cool green beetle, and new orange mushrooms.
