Aurora R8 is proud to announce Heather King as the new Director of the Alternative Learning Center.

King brings more than 21 years of experience in education and has served in a variety of leadership and student support roles throughout her career. Most recently, she served as an RMS Assistant Principal Intern and Summer School Intern Principal while also leading schoolwide leadership initiatives as Lighthouse Coordinator.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Aurora Houn’ Dawg family as the Alternative Learning Center Director,” King said. “I look forward to partnering with students, families, staff, and the community to create meaningful opportunities for growth, success, and achievement for every student.”

Superintendent Dr. Ben Yocom expressed his excitement about King's addition to the district leadership team.

“Mrs. Heather King will be an outstanding addition to the Alternative School; she will be able to continue the tremendous work done by Mr. Chappell over the past two years,” Yocom said. “Her understanding of leadership and the Alternative School approach will serve her and the district well. We are fortunate to have her in Houn’ Dawg NATION!”

We are all so proud of Patience and all of her hard work!

💇‍♀️✨🎉 Congrats to Patience Jones, from Aurora Alternative Learning Center, winner of a $3,000 scholarship to MTI Cosmetology Program! 🎉✨💇‍♀️

Patience is stepping into a hands on future in the beauty industry with a clear goal, build her skills and begin her career in a salon close to home. 💪

During high school, Patience learned the value of staying focused and putting in the effort to reach her goals. With support from her mom, who kept her motivated, and encouragement from teachers like Miss Pope, she found the confidence to keep moving forward. 💙✨

Now, with her scholarship, Patience is ready to take that next step, grow her abilities, and start building her future in Cosmetology. 🚀🙌

Help us celebrate Patience and her bright future in the beauty industry! 🎉👏💇‍♀️

This year, MTI DTC awarded scholarships to support students like Patience! 💰🎓 More winners will be announced soon. Stay tuned! 👀✨

Today, we recognize and celebrate the dedicated leaders who help guide Aurora R8 each day—our building principals and directors.

Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is seen in every classroom, hallway, and program across our district. From supporting staff and students to making thoughtful decisions that keep our schools running smoothly, they lead with purpose, care, and a strong commitment to doing what’s best for kids.

We are grateful for their leadership, their time, and the steady presence they provide to our students, staff, and families.

Please join us in thanking our Aurora R8 principals and directors for all they do to support our schools.
