ALC Family News – Week 2

Great things are happening at the Aurora R8 Alternative Learning Center! Our students are making progress, meeting goals, and continuing to work toward success one day at a time.

This week, we’re celebrating completed classes, improved attendance, and students reaching their individual completion goals. We’re also looking ahead to upcoming grades, tutoring opportunities, and a special attendance day!

Friday, September 4, there was an altercation at the High School football game between multiple students; no weapons were involved or found on any persons. It was brought to the attention of the administration, quickly dealt with, and is being addressed. During this time, information was being spread about a potential threat to Robinson School. The students did the right thing by bringing information they heard to administration and SRO's in attendance. Safety is a top priority at Aurora R8. In collaboration with SRO's and Aurora PD, the threat has been found to be unsubstantiated. We will still follow extra safety protocols and increase support to make sure everyone feels safe when we return to school Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding and concern in this matter. Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Aurora R8 Students

Aurora R8 is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) during the 2026–2027 school year. This means breakfast and lunch are available at no cost to every student enrolled in the district.

Families do not need to complete an application for free or reduced-price meals. All students may participate, regardless of household income or eligibility status.

Nutritious meals help students stay focused and ready to learn. We encourage families to have their children participate in the school breakfast and lunch programs.

ALC News: Choose Growth. One Choice. One Day. One Goal at a Time.

Our goals:
°Conduct at least one community engagement activity each quarter for students and families.
°Promote a positive image of the ALC through effective weekly use of digital publications.
°Maintain a 95% annual attendance rate for students and staff.
°Celebrate student growth while using assessments to monitor learning, identify needs, and provide targeted support.

Celebrations:
°Students completed 27 classes.
°67% of students had perfect attendance.
°100% of teachers had perfect attendance.
°Countless positive relationships were started.
°Students are engaged, working hard and being held accountable.

Opportunities for growth:
°Begin each day focused on individual goals.
°A new goal sheet was created using teacher and student feedback and will be reviewed Monday.
°Students must report to homeroom so their daily progress can be tracked and any need for homework or adjusted pacing can be determined.

Looking ahead:
°Monday: Fire drill during third hour
°Tuesday: Tornado drill during sixth hour
°Thursday: Football-themed pajama day for everyone

📚✏️ Aurora R8 Open House is Almost Here!

Join us on Thursday, August 20, as we welcome students and families back for the 2026–2027 school year!

Come meet your teachers, visit classrooms, pick up important information and get ready for an amazing year.

Open House Schedule:

• Pate Early Childhood: 4:30–6:00 p.m.
• Robinson School: 5:00–6:30 p.m.
• Aurora Junior High & ALC: 5:30–7:00 p.m.
• Aurora High School: 6:00–7:30 p.m.

Families may also drop off student medications during Open House. Please remember:

• Prescription medications must be in the original box or bottle with the prescription number, date and doctor’s information.
• All emergency medications must include an action plan signed by the prescribing doctor.
• Medications must be dropped off by an adult so the required paperwork can be completed.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to our buildings and kick off another great year at Aurora R8. See you on August 20!
