SE Master Gardener Plant Sale
Saturday, June 2 at the Lawrenceburg Farmer's Market.
Why not try something new this year? We have a variety of heirloom tomatoes. Supplies are limited so if you really want a particular type message us.
Juliet ROMA PLUM INDETERMINATE Slightly larger than the well-known Santa grape tomato, Juliet bears delicious, sweet fruit on indeterminate vines. Some gardeners refer to it as a mini Roma because of the shape. The wonderfully sweet fruit are crack resistant and remain in good condition on the vine longer than most cherry tomatoes.
Little Red Pear PEAR INDETERMINATE A bright red, pear-shaped heirloom with an American pedigree that goes back to Colonial times. Attractive and tasty, the 1-2" long fruits are delicious in salads or roasted in the oven.
Mortgage Lifter BEEFSTEAK INDETERMINATE Originally developed in the 1930's by a gardener who successfully grew and sold enough of this tomato variety to pay off his mortgage! Mortgage Lifter is a huge heirloom beefsteak that puts out heavy yields of low-acid, pink fruits that are a constant taste test winner.
San Marzano PLUM INDETERMINATE Compared to the Roma tomato, San Marzano tomatoes are thinner and more pointed. The flesh is much thicker with fewer seeds, and the taste is stronger, sweeter and less acidic.
Aunt Ruby's Green BEEFSTEAK INDETERMINATE A cultivar originating with Ruby Arnold (d 1997), of Greeneville, Tennessee,[1] but achieving great Seed Savers popularity. They are, as the name implies, "green" tomatoes, which really means they are a greenish yellow when fully ripe, but are still tasty when picked early.
Black Beauty STANDARD GLOBE INDETERMINATE World’s Darkest Tomato-- The darkest tomato we know of! A dark, meaty, very rich-fleshed tomato with extreme anthocyanin expression (same antioxidant in blueberries and blackberries). So dark that some tomatoes turn solid blue-black on the skin. Deep red flesh is among the best tasting of all tomatoes. Rich, smooth and savory with earthy tones. Hangs well on the vine and stores very well, and the flavor improves with room-temperature storage. Our own Dave Kaiser tasted it at the 2015 National Heirloom Exposition and proclaimed it as the BEST tomato he had ever eaten!
Box Car Willie ??Surprise???
Black Cherry CHERRY INDETERMINATE Beautiful black cherries look like large, dusky purple-brown grapes; they have that rich flavor that makes black tomatoes famous. Large vines yield very well; very unique and delicious.
Black Krim STANDARD GLOBE INDETERMINATE Black Krim combines bold, smoky flavor and good texture with an unusual appearance. Deep brown/red, 8-16 oz. tomatoes have brown/green shoulders that get darker with more heat and sunlight. Add great flavor and visual interest to your salads by growing Black Krim Tomatoes. Highly regarded for its excellent, bold taste, this tomato holds its position as a beautiful one too, with colors ranging from a maroon, reddish-brown hue on the bottom, graduating to greenish, dark purple shoulders.
Hillbilly BEEFSTEAK INDETERMINATE A huge, bi-color heirloom; brilliant yellow color with red marbling. Very large with a rich, sweet flavor. Beautiful when sliced. An heirloom believed to be from West Virginia.
Green Zebra BEEFSTEAK INDETERMINATE Chartreuse colored flesh with lime green stripes, Green Zebra Tomatoes are a garden favorite not only for their beautiful colors but for their sweet, rich tomato taste. The only problem you will have with this variety is when to tell if a green tomato is ripe! Hint: Green Zebra's light green stripes turn to yellow, and its firmness in your gentle hand will show a slight "give" much like when a red tomato is ready to pick.
Green Vernissage PEAR INDETERMINATE This little striped jewel is loaded with sublime sweetness and taste. A perfect addition to salads, salsas and even desserts! The small fruits have lovely light green flesh. Plants are quite productive over a long season. A new favorite at our farm.
Golden Jubilee STANDARD GLOBE INDETERMINATE A very popular orange variety; fine, sweet, mild flavor; good size and yield. An old standard
Cherokee Purple BEEFSTEAK INDETERMINATE An old Cherokee Indian heirloom, pre- 1890 variety; beautiful, deep, dusky purple-pink color, superb sweet flavor, and very-large-sized fruit. Try this one for real old-time tomato flavor. Our favorite dark tomato and one of our best selling varieties.
Black Vernissage STANDARD GLOBE INDETERMINATE Here is a lovely “black” tomato that is loaded with flavor as well as production. This 2 oz. tomato, along with its other Vernissage cousins, is sure to make a big splash in the garden as well as the kitchen. These are perfect for rich tasting sauces.
