Ever wonder who is responsible for designing and analyzing our research projects?
Meet IMAGE group's Geriatric Epidemiologist and Analyst: Dr. Prajakta Shanbhag!
The number of years you've worked for the IMAGE group: 6 years!
What your primary area of research is in (and if you want to speak a little bit about your different studies): I study body composition (such as bone and muscle mass), and how progressing age and menopause status may increase the risk of Osteoporosis. I am also interested in evaluating the role of resistance exercise (strength training) in reducing the risk of Osteoporosis in older adults.
Your Education (can be where you went to school or any titles/certifications):
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) - Mumbai, India
Master of Public Health (MPH) Epidemiology - University of Colorado Denver
Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Epidemiology - University of Colorado Denver
A little bit about yourself: I was born and brought up in Mumbai, India and that is where I was exposed to my first research study involving intellectually disabled kids. I have been in Colorado for the past eight years with my husband and two boys, and absolutely love it! We enjoy road trips through the mountains and board games with friends.
If you have any recommendations about why people should exercise or join an IMAGE research study: Exercise is the single most effective non-pharmacological way to improve overall health for people of all ages. The IMAGE group investigators are constantly exploring new ways to enhance the health and well-being of the community through innovative research studies. Participating in these studies not only helps you to stay fit, but also helps the community by providing evidence-based interventions against diseases.
