Drawing connections in art!

Ms Hornburgs Drawing 1 students are learning how to create contour line drawings through observation of real life objects, allowing them to train their eyes to see proportion, scale and depth! As they share their still life set ups with each other, they are using their communication skills and connecting while being creative. This helps build essential critical thinking skills as well as resiliency as they learn from mistakes and grow as artists. Art is an excellent way to not only use your creativity but also to connect with the world around you. As they say “the Earth without art is just eh”

Guest Pass Policy for HOME Football Games

🎟️ NEW GUEST PASS POLICY FOR HOME FOOTBALL GAMES! 🏈
Hey, Blackhawks! Planning to bring a friend from another high school to a West High home football game this season? There’s a new Guest Pass process you’ll need to complete before purchasing your guest’s ticket. Any high school student who does not attend WAHS must be an approved guest of a WAHS student to attend.

If you’re bringing a guest, here’s what YOU need to do:
🎟️ Pick up a Guest Pass Form in the Student Activities or Athletics Office or download one here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dQYDEQbggYkF3fdNXuc5tGILbppPqy6K/view?usp=sharing
✏️ Complete the form with your guest, including verification of good standing from their high school.
🪪 Attach a copy of your guest’s current school photo ID.
⏰ Turn everything in to the Athletics Office by 3:00 PM on the Thursday before the home football game.
✅ WAIT FOR APPROVAL! Once your guest is approved, you may purchase their ticket through GoFan. Do NOT purchase your guest’s ticket until the Guest Pass has been approved.

Please keep the following in mind when attending a home football game:
-Tickets will only be available through GoFan.com, and only until 7pm. No sales at the door. https://sd129.io/WAtix
-Gates open at 4:00 PM.
-Admission gates will close immediately following halftime of the varsity game. This applies to all spectators, including those who purchased tickets in advance. All spectators must enter the stadium and be in the stands prior to the conclusion of halftime.

A few important reminders: Each WAHS student may bring ONE outside high school guest. Your guest must arrive at the game with you or your parent, should bring their current school photo ID, and may not sit in the WAHS student section.

Plan ahead, get your paperwork turned in on time, and we’ll see you under the lights at West High! ❤️💙🏈

📅 September is Attendance Awareness Month!

At West High, we know that every day matters. Being at school consistently helps students stay connected, keep up with their learning, earn credits, and stay on track for graduation.

Missing just 2 days of school each month adds up to nearly 10% of the school year and those missed days can quickly make it harder to keep up.

Strong attendance is also about more than academics. Showing up consistently builds the habits of accountability, resilience, and connection that prepare students for success beyond high school.

This September, we’re reminding all of our Blackhawks: Be here. Be engaged. Make every day count.

Participen. Hagan que cada día cuente.

Bringing behind the scenes into the spotlight!

In Ms Pauley’s Theater Tech class, students are working collaboratively to turn their creative ideas into reality. They are learning how to design and build models for REAL sets that will be used in upcoming Theater Productions at West High and around the district! In addition to set design and construction, theater tech learns lighting design and operation, sound engineering, costumes and makeup, prop management and stage management. All of these technical skills also build life skills including problem-solving, shop safety, leadership and time management! Bravo!

Collaboration at its finest!

The Symphonic Winds are hard at work preparing for their upcoming fall concert. They are working in sectionals, with brass and percussion rehearsing separately at first and then will come together to create one unified ensemble. They are preparing three exciting works for their Fall Concert on Tuesday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. - Swamp Rabbit Stomp by Michael Sweeney, Haunted Carousel by Erika Svanoe, featuring the unique sound of a theremin, and Amber Waves of Grain by James Curnow, celebrating the 250th birthday of our country! They are looking forward to sharing this music with our school community this fall. Go Blackhawks!

Working together makes for Great Chemistry!

Honors Chemistry students kicked off Unit 1 by learning lab safety, essential equipment, and Bunsen burner techniques. Through hands-on collaboration, students are building classroom community while developing safe lab practices that will guide their work throughout the year!

❤️💙 OPPORTUNITIES ARE EVERYWHERE AT WEST HIGH! ❤️💙

One of the best parts about being a Blackhawk is that there are SO many ways for students to get involved, meet new people, explore their interests, and find a place where they belong!

With the school year underway, many of our Clubs & Activities are beginning to meet — and now is a great time for families to encourage their students to explore everything West has to offer!

📢 STAY UP-TO-DATE WITH DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Student announcements include club meetings, upcoming events, tryouts, volunteer opportunities and so much more! While announcements are read over the PA system every Tuesday & Friday, they are updated DAILY on the West High website.

➡️ Daily Announcements:
https://westhigh.sd129.org/students/daily-announcements

💻 EXPLORE OUR CLUBS & ACTIVITIES
Students can also join the Schoology Group for clubs they are interested in to receive updates directly from club sponsors. Schoology access codes are included on our Clubs & Sponsors List.

➡️ Clubs & Activities List:

We encourage parents and guardians to ask your student what they’re interested in and help them find an opportunity to get connected! ❤️💙

And with so many opportunities at West, there truly is something for everyone — but if a student doesn't see a club that matches their interests, they can stop by the Student Activities Office and talk with Mrs. Kegarise about starting one! 🙌

Find your people. Find your passion. Find your place at West! ❤️💙

💛🎗️ WEST HIGH IS GOING GOLD THIS SEPTEMBER! 🎗️💛

Throughout the month of September, West Aurora High School will be Going GOLD for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!

As a Blackhawk community, we’re coming together to raise awareness and funds for Cal’s Angels while continuing to honor the memory of Megan and her wish to never stop fighting for a cure. 💛

Throughout the month, be on the lookout for opportunities to get involved, show your support, and GO GOLD! Our clubs, activities, athletic teams, staff, students, and families are all encouraged to join us in making an impact.

Together, we can help keep Megan’s spirit and mission alive while supporting children and families impacted by childhood cancer.

💛 Go GOLD. Raise Awareness. Keep Fighting. 🎗️ ❤️💙 Once a Blackhawk, Always a Blackhawk!
