Just wanted to share this post from Brandon Herscovitch on LinkedIn. At Gold Vine, we promote sustainable practices and quality ABA above all else. We give our employees as much as we can before we start to lose money on them. And then we give our all in culture and workplace balance to be more than competitive. As a company who knows what the insurance rates are, it leads to questions about how some company’s can afford this pricing model. There is always a catch.

“Seeking entry level clinical BCBA position
$165,000 annual salary
35k signing bonus
15 - 20 billable hours per week
We don't track billable time/utilization
When you see jobs like these, understand something. There's often a cost.
You're either applying to work for someone who doesn't understand the economics of ABA (that includes private and PE backed companies alike)...
Or, you're applying to work with someone who does, and is knowingly offering a job and services under a model that is not likely sustainable on its own.
These models undermine long-term sustainability for clients, employees, the broader market, and ultimately, access to care.
Caveat: There are very limited circumstances where compensation packages like this can be valid and sustainable, but generally not under a typical insurance-funded model. A practice would need substantial private-pay revenue, which very few families can afford, or operate predominantly from out of network arrangements. In theory, a nonprofit could conceivably support compensation like this if it had an unusually large donor, but you'd still need a board willing to approve those salaries, which is highly unlikely. And once the unicorn donor disappears, so does the sustainability. Or maybe you've found the magical ABA company with reimbursement rates far beyond everyone else's. There's probably a better chance you've found a unicorn.
I am not judging those who gravitate toward those positions. We all want a comfortable living. I do too. But understand, offers like this are NOT on their own illustrative of a good company, or one that cares about their staff.
It's a matter of economics.
A number that good should make you ask more questions, not fewer.”
