We could not be more proud of our CATC students who represented Maine at the National Skills & Leadership Conference in Atlanta last week!

These students demonstrated professionalism, determination, teamwork, and pride while competing against some of the very best students from across the nation. Their dedication to performing at the highest level on the national stage showed just how seriously they embraced the challenge of competition.

The countless hours spent practicing, preparing, and refining their skills is not something many high school students are willing to commit to, but our students rose to the occasion with incredible work ethic and determination.

Throughout the week, they represented Capital Area Technical Center and the State of Maine with excellence, professionalism, and pride both in and out of competition.

These students are the future of Maine’s workforce, and we are incredibly lucky to call them CATC students. Congratulations on an amazing week at Nationals, we are proud of each and every one of you!

A huge THANK YOU to the incredible business partners and sponsors who supported our 8 Capital Area Technical Center students during their trip to the National Skills & Leadership Conference in Atlanta last week!

Because of your generosity, our students were able to experience so much more than the competition itself. They explored amazing attractions like the World of Coca-Cola, visited the unforgettable Georgia Aquarium, attended an exciting Atlanta Braves game, and enjoyed dining at some of Atlanta’s iconic restaurants and destinations.

These experiences helped create lifelong memories for our students while giving them opportunities to bond, grow, and represent CATC and Maine on a national stage.

Our sponsors truly had our backs every step of the way, and we could not be more grateful for the support, encouragement, and investment in our students’ success.

We encourage our community to support the businesses that support our students. Their generosity helps provide opportunities that go far beyond the classroom and makes a lasting impact on the future workforce of Maine.

Charlotte Gearhart, a junior from Cony High School, is being recognized as a CATC Professional of the Month for her outstanding work ethic and dedication in the Auto Tech program.

Charlotte has thoroughly enjoyed everything she has learned this year, as well as the strong sense of community at CATC. She has developed a solid understanding of several automotive systems, including brakes, suspension, and electrical components. She takes pride in the high grades she has maintained, and, as she jokingly notes, in the fact that she hasn’t broken anything she has worked on.

Outside of CATC, Charlotte stays busy as a member of Cony’s soccer and softball teams. She is looking forward to returning for another year in the Auto Tech program to further expand her skills and knowledge. Always eager to challenge herself, Charlotte also takes college courses while still in high school. She completed a college course last summer, plans to take another this summer, and will continue to take advantage of early college opportunities during the school year.

Her instructor, Mr. Joe Richards, shared, “Charlotte is always prepared for classroom and shop time. She is eager to take things she’s learned in the classroom and apply them to projects in the shop. She takes all tasks head-on, knows when to ask for help, and always wants to work hard.”

Charlotte’s motivation, curiosity, and commitment to learning make her a truly deserving Professional of the Month.

Congrats to May Professional of the Month, Josh McGrath! Josh, a senior from Hall-Dale High School, is enrolled in his second year of the Machine Tool & Welding program, where he has consistently demonstrated dedication, skill, and a strong work ethic. Throughout his time in the program, Josh has especially enjoyed designing and manufacturing precision parts that directly align with his future career goals in machining. He takes pride in how much he has learned about the trade and values the hands-on experiences that have helped prepare him for the workforce.

One of Josh’s favorite projects was collaborating with his classmates to build a go-kart from the ground up. A project that required teamwork, problem-solving, and technical precision. Outside of the classroom, Josh stays busy playing baseball for Hall-Dale, working, golfing, and spending time with friends.

After graduation, Josh plans to begin working full-time at Kennebec Technologies, where he looks forward to applying the skills he has developed in the program. His instructor, Cody Rau, describes Josh as “focused, polite, and detail-oriented,” noting that he consistently delivers high-quality work and takes great pride in everything he produces. Josh’s commitment to excellence and his positive attitude make him a well-deserving May Professional of the Month.
