South Parish Nursery School

Here are some great pictures of our special day with the firefighters!

Firefighters Ben and kristi from the Augusta fire department came to visit our school. They taught us many things about being safe and special things that we needed to do and not do. Firefighter kristi showed us what she wears to keep herself safe. We talked about making sure we sleep with our bedroom door closed at night so that if we smelled smoke and the smoke alarm went off if we felt the door and it was hot, we know not to open the door. Firefighter Ben told us that we could throw out our favorite toy stuffy or blanket out the window so that they would know where we were and to keep yelling help. We all know what the firefighters wear and what they might sound like with their gear on, so we wanted to make sure that none of us are afraid when a firefighter comes in. and we talked about their safety spot where to go in case it was a fire not to hide but to get right out. We all had a great time and we got to see all the equipment and tools that the fire trucks hold. They sure have a lot of doors on their fire trucks. We even got to sit inside and pretend we were driving. And then we had a group picture of all of us sitting at the front of the firetruck. What a great day.

This isn’t just block play! It’s working together, it’s problem-solving, it’s creativity, It’s imagination, it’s social and emotional, it’s math, and fun. I could go on and on about these fabulous structures that are nursery school kids are creating.
It doesn’t just include the blocks to make the airplane, the people riding on the plane, numbers and letters lined up, the train along the side, the house is in stores lined up as if they’re on a main street and finally Stone blocks along the tail of the airplane. The details that are involved unbelievable. Before I forget, I also wanna tell you that the children work together to put everything back where it goes when they were all done with the airplane. Oh, by the way, Mr. Richard is also riding on the airplane.
