Redouane Aherrahrou, PhD, and Ravi Komaravolu, PhD, of the Immunology Center of Georgia at the Medical College of Georgia, have been invited to join the Editorial Board of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, a leading journal of the American Heart Association. Both previously served on the journal’s Early Career Editorial Board and will now serve two-year terms on the full Editorial Board. In addition, Aherrahrou was invited to speak at the 2027 Atherosclerosis Gordon Research Seminar in Barcelona, Spain, recognizing his growing contributions to cardiovascular research.

A recent study from researchers in Augusta University School of Public Health found that adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and adults with cerebral palsy are more likely to visit the emergency department for falls. Published in Annals of Family Medicine, the study highlights the need for greater awareness, fall-risk assessments and prevention strategies to better support individuals with disabilities.

Today, President Russell T. Keen joined Georgia Gov. Brian P. Kemp, University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue and Wellstar President and CEO Ketul J. Patel for the VIP grand opening of Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center.

The event celebrated the completion of Georgia’s newest hospital and the continued partnership between Wellstar Health System, the University System of Georgia, Wellstar MCG Health and Augusta University. This new facility will expand access to care while providing opportunities for students and residents to learn, train and prepare for the future of healthcare in Georgia.

Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center will be open to serve the community and see patients on Aug. 26.

The Healthy Grandparents Program, a signature project of Augusta University College of Nursing, hosted its eighth annual children’s physicals, providing grandchildren in grandparent-led households with health screenings, education, referrals and school supplies to help them start the year prepared. For 27 years, the program has supported families across the region by connecting grandparents with health resources, support services and community partnerships. Through hands-on experiences for students and compassionate care for families, the program continues to support families and promote healthier futures. 💙

Approximately 1,500 backpacks, along with books and educational resources, were distributed at the Hub for Community Innovation Augusta Back-to-School Celebration. Now in its fifth year, the celebration continues to bring families and community partners together to support students as they head back to school.

Through the Medical College of Georgia Stethoscope Program, first-year medical students receive an MCG-branded stethoscope and a handwritten note from an alumni, offering encouragement as they begin medical school.

For Donna Chong (Class of 2027), the experience was especially memorable when she discovered the note was written by her sister, an MCG alumna whose example inspired her to become a physician.

The James M. Hull College of Business, Augusta University Master of Business Administration program has been recognized among the top 10 MBA programs in Georgia by JAMES Magazine Online and included in The Princeton Review’s Best Business Schools for on-campus MBA programs.

The program continues to expand opportunities for students with the launch of a new Strategic Innovation and Technology Management concentration, designed to prepare leaders to navigate emerging technologies and data-informed decision making, as well as the transition of the Healthcare Management concentration to a fully online format.
