As we wrap up our first few days and first week of the school year, we want to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to the many volunteers, families, churches, businesses, and community members who have supported our staff and students.

We are especially thankful to Augusta United Methodist Church for hosting a staff lunch this week and to their sister church for providing a wonderful staff breakfast. We also appreciate the generous donations from families and community members who have truly spoiled our staff and helped ensure that our students have every opportunity to thrive this school year.

We are also incredibly grateful for the many organizations and community partners who helped make our Open House a success. A special thank you to FNB Bank, the Scouts, LifeWise, EA Hawse, our Title I Specialist, our school Guidance Counselor, Communities In Schools (CIS), the Hampshire County Public Library, our PTO, and the Romney Middle School and Capon Bridge Middle School Music and Band Departments for taking the time to support our students and families as we kicked off a new school year. Your partnership, generosity, and commitment to our school community are greatly appreciated.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to HomeTown Solutions for helping provide chairs that will be used for special events throughout the year, including our Veterans Day Assembly, 5th Grade Graduation, and other school programs. We are grateful for this investment in our school and the opportunities it creates for our students, families, and community.

In addition, we want to recognize once again recognize Mr. Beverage and the Hampshire County Schools Maintenance Department for the installation of our sound system. It has been working wonderfully, and the addition of a wireless headset for Mr. Crane has made it possible to communicate directions to students more effectively and efficiently while reducing echo and improving sound quality throughout the gymnasium.

Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly, from before summer began through the weeks leading up to the start of school, to make Windy Ridge a beautiful, welcoming, and exciting place for students to learn. Their dedication has been evident throughout our building, and we are incredibly grateful for their hard work.

We are also extremely proud of our students and how well they have done during the first few days of school. They have already begun modeling what it means to be a Honeybee at Windy Ridge by being Busy, Exploring, Excelling, and Supporting others. Our students have done a wonderful job demonstrating these expectations, and we could not be prouder.

This week, Principal McCormick had the opportunity to recognize students through positive notes sent home and to celebrate our first Honeybee of the Day, nominated by a staff member. Our school bus drivers have also been invited to participate in recognizing students by submitting nominations for those who demonstrate outstanding behavior while riding the bus. Principal McCormick was also delighted to make positive phone calls home to celebrate students who have been shining and showing what it means to be a Honeybee.

A few helpful reminders moving forward: Milk is now $0.50.

We would also like to remind families to please use the parking spaces during parent pick-up to help ensure that dismissal remains safe and efficient for everyone. Once our Pre-K students begin attending, families participating in parent pick-up for Pre-K will need to utilize the bottom parking lot. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping keep our procedures safe and smooth!

We are truly un-bee-lievably thankful for all of the wonderful things happening at Windy Ridge Elementary. None of this would be possible without the concerted efforts of our dedicated staff, supportive families, generous community partners, and incredible volunteers. Together, we are creating opportunities for our Honeybees to learn, grow, and succeed.

We have been thrilled with how this school year has started and know that our Honeybees are going to soar. Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and school community. We cannot wait to see all that this year holds.

Honeybee proud,

Principal Allison McCormick

Attention Honeybees!

The cafeteria is buzzing with excitement as Mrs. Katie prepares another amazing year of school meals! From breakfast favorites to tasty lunch selections, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

School meals are an important part of the day, giving our students the energy they need to learn, explore, create, and succeed. We encourage all of our Honeybees to join their friends in the cafeteria and discover all the great options available throughout the month.

Plus, Family Lunch Days are coming! Mrs. Katie is working on the details now, and we'll share dates and information as soon as everything is finalized.

Check out the menus and get ready for a delicious start to the school year!

The classrooms were already full of learners this week... just not the ones who usually sit in the seats!

Across Hampshire County Schools, our teachers and staff have been back in our schools learning, collaborating, preparing, and getting ready to welcome students back next week.

These pictures from across our county are a great reminder that learning never stops in public schools. Before our students walk through the doors, our educators are working to learn something new, sharpen their skills, share ideas, and make sure they are ready to give our students the very best start to the school year.

Next week, the seats will be filled with students. This week, they were filled with the people preparing to teach, support, encourage, and inspire them.

This is what public education looks like. It is people learning together, working together, and showing up for kids and their community.

We are proud of our schools. We are proud of our people. And we are proud to say:

We Love WV Public Schools!

And speaking of next week... we cannot wait to welcome our students back for their first day on Thursday, August 20th!

Today, the staff of Windy Ridge Elementary gathered to prepare for the start of a new school year. As part of our time together, we shared meaningful objects and keepsakes that represent the people and experiences that have left a lasting mark on our lives.

A common thread quickly emerged: family and former students.

Our Pre-K team shared stories that reflected the relationships that inspired them to become educators. Ms. Metzler brought a plaque that reminds her of her desire to be the kind of teacher she hopes her own children will have. Ms. Destiny shared "I Love You" earrings from her first year teaching at a school for the Deaf, where she learned not only a new language but also developed a passion for helping children find their voice and connect with the world around them. Ms. Nancy reflected on her own childhood experiences in school and her commitment to creating an environment where children feel welcomed, supported, and excited to learn. Ms. Kim brought a card made by students from her first year in Pre-K, a reminder of the joy she found in watching young learners grow and develop.

Other staff members shared treasured photographs of loved ones, keepsakes connected to their educational journeys, and mementos from former students.

A LEGO creation made by former students serves as a reminder that education is about helping children build confidence, skills, and pride in their accomplishments. An eagle pin symbolizes the lasting impact educators can have, even when the results of our work may not be immediately visible. Stuffed animals, cards, photographs, and gifts from students and families remind us that the relationships formed within a school community often become some of life's most meaningful connections.

Like a hive working together toward a common purpose, every member of our Honeybee family brings unique experiences, cherished memories, and a deep commitment to serving children.

The stories shared today reminded us that education is ultimately about people. It is about investing in students, partnering with families, and creating opportunities that help children learn, grow, and thrive.

At Windy Ridge Elementary, we are proud to be West Virginia public educators. We believe in the power of public schools to strengthen communities, open doors for students, and create brighter futures. Every day, we have the privilege of serving the children and families of our community, and we do not take that responsibility lightly.

As we prepare to welcome our Honeybees back to the hive, we are grateful for the families, teachers, mentors, and former students who helped shape our own journeys. Their influence continues to inspire us as we work to make a positive difference in the lives of the students entrusted to our care.

WV Public School Proud. Honeybee Strong. Ready for a year of learning, growth, and opportunity.
