🎹 Faculty Spotlight: Chadwick Tolley!

Today, we’re spotlighting Chadwick Tolley, who teaches printmaking and illustration here at Augusta University!

His work is currently shown at the Radius Gallery in Missoula, MT and his solo exhibition at Redux Contemporary in Charleston, SC.

His current work investigates the intersection of digital drawing and composition with traditional print processes. Approached through a stream-of-consciousness manner, he allows narratives to emerge organically. He aims to understand better themes that connect to shared human experiences.

Our Senior Design Factory students took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to Bridge Builder Communities, where they are beginning a real-world design collaboration with the nonprofit.

Students toured the tiny home community and learned more about Bridge Builder’s mission to provide housing, resources, and a supportive community for young adults transitioning out of foster care. The visit gave students a chance to experience the organization firsthand and gather inspiration for a Case for Support book they will design for national distribution.

Students met with Dr. Jackson Drumgoole, CEO of Bridge Builder Communities, and Martin Harvey, Bridge Builder Communities board member and owner of Recurring Marketing, to learn about the organization, its audience, fundraising goals, and the story the book needs to tell.

From research and concept development to typography, imagery, paper, and production, our seniors will experience the full process of creating an important communication piece for a real client and a meaningful cause.

We can’t wait to see what they create.

Coming soon to the Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art!

Experience Skipping the Splash, a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Taro Takizawa, featuring work across printmaking, drawing, wall vinyl installation, and two-dimensional design. Takizawa’s work explores nature, memory, pattern, texture, and mark-making while blending traditional printmaking with contemporary approaches.

On View: August 24–October 2

 Artist Reception: September 10 | 5–7 p.m.

Layers of Change is now on view at CANDL Fine Art , featuring two- and three-dimensional works by Janice Williams Whiting , AUG Art and Design Department Professor Emerita.

Through painting, digital media, porcelain, and more, Whiting explores womanhood, aging, beauty, the body, and the ways society shapes how women are seen. Her work embraces change rather than hiding it—layer by layer, revision by revision.

Join us for an artist talk Saturday, August 22 at 12 PM for a closer look at the ideas and processes behind the exhibition.

Swing by the ceramics and sculpture lab today!

CRSC Ceramics & Sculpture Gallery presents Formal Concern, a two-person exhibition by Ana Thompson and Nancy Hoehn—now current AU painting students. Thompson is the former head of the Dental Hygiene Program at Augusta University, and Hoehn worked as an obstetrics nurse for over twenty years.

Exploring abstraction and figuration through distinct yet complementary approaches, the show is on view through April 25.

Closing reception: Friday, April 24 | 5–7 PM.

Join us for Rooted 250, a one-night community arts experience celebrating roots, heritage, and the stories that shape the places we call home.

In honor of America’s 250th anniversary, the evening brings together a curated exhibition of artists from across the Southeast and Canada, alongside live performances on the Maxwell Theatre stage — including a featured guest performance by internationally acclaimed trombonist Wycliffe Gordon.

Enjoy an immersive and interactive evening with collaborative art activities, a 360° photo booth, and a community reception with light refreshments.

Rooted 250 is curated by Augusta University graphic design professor Clarissa Gainey and created in collaboration with art and design students. The event also supports Thankful for America, a multimedia storytelling initiative highlighting the stories of people who came to this country, put down roots, and contribute to the communities around them.
