Preparing students for the future starts with investing in the people who make the work possible.

This week, the JMG team came together for our annual Workforce Development Summit at Sugarloaf Mountain. Specialists, Instructional Designers, Central Office staff, and the Executive Team were joined by invited guests and partners for a week of professional learning, collaboration, and preparation for the academic year ahead.

Throughout the summit, we shared ideas, explored new approaches, celebrated successes, and strengthened the relationships that support our work in schools and communities across Maine. We were grateful to welcome partners including Education Design Lab, FAME Maine, members of our Board of Directors, and other collaborators whose perspectives enriched our conversations.

As we begin a new academic year, we're proud of the dedication and expertise our team brings to communities across Maine. Together, they'll support more than 13,000 young people through our programs, experiences, and meaningful relationships, helping them build skills, earn credentials, explore career pathways, and achieve their goals.

What started in Maine is helping shape how schools prepare students for what's next across the country.

We're proud to see JMG's Competency to Credential Model featured in Open Campus' Mile Markers newsletter. The article highlights how Maine schools are helping students build and demonstrate the communication, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, and other durable skills that employers and colleges are looking for.

Proven in Maine and designed to scale, our Competency to Credential Model helps students build and demonstrate their skills through verifiable microcredentials. Through GenUS, this proven model is now being introduced to school systems beyond Maine while remaining grounded in the work that began here.

We're proud that our model, proven in Maine, is helping create new opportunities for students and informing how schools prepare the next generation for college, careers, and life.

Something I heard while listening to folks across Montana last month is that rural employers – from community banks to lumber mills – are seeking young people with proven soft skills. Just like corporate executives in bigger cities, managers in rural areas want to see students who show professio...

Dream Becomes Reality for JMG Alum
Story shared by Jess Rodrigue, JMG College Success Specialist at Kennebec Valley Community College.

When Meghan McQuillan-Caccamo graduated from KVCC Kennebec Valley Community College (.me ) in 2023 with an associate degree in General Studies, it marked another milestone in a journey that began years earlier as a JMG student at Messalonskee High School.

Throughout high school and college, Meghan was an active participant in JMG, taking advantage of opportunities to build skills, pursue her goals, and grow as a leader. Even after graduation, she has remained connected to the program and continues to be one of JMG's biggest champions.

In 2024, while serving as Miss Central Maine, Meghan returned to KVCC as a JMG alum to speak with visiting high school students during a JMG Maine Career Exploration Badge event, sharing her educational and career journey to encourage the next generation of students.

This summer, Meghan achieved another lifelong goal by opening Élevé Movement Collective, making her dream of owning a dance studio a reality at just 24 years old.

Congratulations, Meghan! Your determination and commitment to your goals helped turn your dream of becoming a small business owner into reality.
