CURS is heartbroken over the passing of our dear colleague and campus partner, Dr. Beth Huggins.

Dr. Huggins, the director of First & Second Year Experience, was the fiercest student advocate who knew and loved our student body well. She believed in the power of experiential learning and its impact on students. We will miss her collaborative spirit and cheerful personality she approached life with.

Sending our love and condolences to Beth’s family, the staff and students affiliated with the Office of First & Second Year Experiences, and all who knew and loved Beth. 🤍

Students, don’t forget about this calendar change next week!

With Labor Day fast approaching, please note an important change to the class schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Because the fall 2026 semester begins and ends on a Tuesday, the academic calendar includes an extra Tuesday and fewer Mondays. To ensure all classes meet the required instructional time, the schedule has been adjusted.

On Sept. 8:
- Monday, Monday/Wednesday, and Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes will meet.
- Tuesday and Tuesday/Thursday classes will not meet.

Please plan accordingly and check your course schedule and D2L for any additional information from your instructors.

Normal class schedule will resume Wednesday, Sept. 9. This schedule does not apply to the MD and DMD courses, which follow a different academic calendar.

Can you tell we’re just a little excited?! 🤪😆 The 2026 Summer Scholars Program cohort is sharing their research tomorrow at the annual program symposium from 4-6 pm in the McKnight Family Hall in the J. Harold Harrison, EdD, Education Commons. We’d love to see you there to support our scholars!

📊👨🏽‍💻Tracking the path from outbreak to endemic.

AUG College of Science & Math’s Dr. Michael Otunuga brought one of our summer scholars on board to his research, looking at mathematical modeling and stochastic epidemiology to predict when diseases like rhinovirus/enterovirus may resurge (or come under control) across U.S. regions. By turning surveillance data into time-to-resurgence forecasts, this research aims to support smarter, adaptive public health decisions.

We look forward to seeing more of our teams work, including Dr. Otunuga’s, at the Summer Scholars Program Symposium this Thursday, July 16, from 4-6 pm in the McKnight Family Hall inside of the J. Harold Harrison Education Commons building.
