Take a closer look at these fascinating organisms that feed us, heal us, and occasionally outsmart us.
In Mycology: Introduction to Fungi, UMA’s new fully online, 4-credit lecture/lab, you will study fungal diversity, structure, genetics, ecology, and importance to humans, and explore roles in human health, biotech, and the environment.
With a hands-on lab kit, web-based simulations, and photography, you will grow fungi and investigate fungi through lab work, data analysis, and case study.

Explore free speech in a new fall Justice Studies course!
JUS 306: Free Speech in American Law, History, and Culture traces the history and legal foundations of free speech, from landmark court cases to the free speech controversies of today.
Topics include:
- Defamation and Parody
- Hate Speech
- Social Media
- Comedy and Cancellation
- Speech in Wartime
- Schools and Prisons
- Academic Freedom
- Money & Political Campaigns

Summer schedule update for the UMA Bangor Fitness Center:
Beginning this month, the Fitness Center will close at 2 p.m. on Fridays through August, and the facility will also be closed May 11–15. Whether you’re lifting, shooting hoops, or squeezing in a quick workout between summer plans, be sure to check the updated hours before stopping by!

New club alert! 🚨 Introducing Seen & Herd: UMA’s new LGBTQIA+ club
Interested students are invited to our first meeting on Tuesday, April 7, at 3:00 pm, in Randall Hall room 218 and on zoom. For more information and to receive the zoom link, please contact faculty club advisor Amy Cyr at [email protected] or student Fray Bennett at [email protected].
The club will hold both in-person and virtual events and provide a safe space for folks to gather and connect. Opportunities exit to hold a leadership role, as officers need to be selected. All LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies are warmly welcomed. We hope to see you soon!

We’re excited to announce our 2026 Commencement Speaker, Aaron Rosenblum! 🎓
Rosenblum, Engagement and Education Coordinator at the ACLU of Maine, has built a career centered on civic engagement, community education, and connecting people with information and resources. Before joining the ACLU of Maine, he worked as a librarian developing programs that brought communities together through learning and public dialogue.
He’ll deliver the keynote address at UMA’s 2026 Commencement on Saturday, May 9 at the Augusta Civic Center as we celebrate the achievements of this year’s graduates. 🎉
