🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Dariusz Kowalski!

The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is proud to celebrate Dr. Dariusz Kowalski, professor of computer science, on officially receiving the 2026 Prize for Innovation in Distributed Computing at SIROCCO 2026.

This prestigious international award recognizes nearly two decades of contributions to distributed computing, a field that explores how computer systems communicate, coordinate and operate reliably in complex environments. Dr. Kowalski's research has helped advance understanding in areas such as wireless communications, network security and communication efficiency.

We are honored to have faculty whose research is making an impact around the world while also helping mentor and inspire the next generation of computer scientists here at Augusta University.

🔦 Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Hoda Maleki

At Augusta University's School of Computer and Cyber Sciences, Dr. Hoda Maleki, Associate Professor, leads the System Security and Applied Cryptography Lab (SYSSEClab), where graduate researchers are working to make computing more secure, private and trustworthy.

Supported by National Science Foundation-funded projects, SYSSEClab conducts research at the intersection of applied cryptography, system security and trustworthy AI. The lab's work includes privacy-preserving data analysis, secure computation, intrusion detection, blockchain-based security solutions and emerging challenges in AI security.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into software development and everyday technology, Dr. Maleki and her team are helping address critical questions surrounding privacy, security and trust. Their recent research, including work accepted to ARES 2026, examines the security risks associated with AI-generated software and autonomous AI systems.

Through innovative research and student mentorship, Dr. Maleki and SYSSEClab are helping shape the future of trustworthy computing.

🏁🤖 Race day is almost here!

Today, our VICEROY Cyber Kids campers dove deeper into robotics as they continued working with their Cutebots. Campers learned how to control their robots, adjust speeds and acceleration through coding, and test how different commands impact performance.

They also tackled one of the biggest challenges yet—programming their robots to successfully navigate turns and stay on track in preparation for tomorrow's races.

The competition is heating up, and our campers are ready to put their coding skills to the test. Stay tuned to see who crosses the finish line first! 🚀
