Feed The Monster
Can be used with all age groups. For younger children, use with ABC's or Numbers. Once the child has learned the letter/number they can feed it to the monster. Use with older children for learning sight words, addition/subtraction facts, .... The possibilities are endless!

Reading and Comprehension Tips:

Ask questions after reading the story.
Example: Who was the story about? What did he/she do? What was the dogs or cats name? What color was Mr. ??? 's hat?

For younger children, keep the questions simple. For older children, ask for a little more detail.

Let your child retell the story to you in his or her own words. This builds vocabulary, creative thinking, and improves language development. And, besides that, it's fun.

When your child wants to read you a story, let them. Even if what the child is saying is not true to the actual book. This follows what was mentioned in # 2.

Are you concerned because your child’s language development seems delayed? Rest assured that “normal” language development doesn't progress in exactly the same way for all preschoolers. However, you may want to seek help if your child:

*Was late in starting to speak.
*Has trouble modulating his voice. (For example: Is his voice too loud or too soft?)
*Doesn't always seem to hear what others tell him.
*Has difficulty understanding, repeating, and following instructions.
*Has a very limited vocabulary
*Speaks slowly or without fluency; stutters or doesn't finish sentences.
*Has trouble naming familiar people or objects or struggles to retrieve familiar words from memory.
*Struggles with rhyming or retelling familiar stories.
*Has a hard time keeping a conversation on topic.

Discuss your concerns with your child’s preschool teacher, pediatrician, and, if necessary, a specialist (such as a speech therapist). If you’re concerned that your preschooler may have a learning disability or delay, you can contact your public school system’s director of Special Education for a diagnostic screening at no cost to you, available under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Description

Rainbow Tutoring offers one-on-one help to elementary aged children who need a little extra boost. Rainbow Tutoring offers Kindergarten Prep classes to preschool aged children. Rainbow Tutoring also offers CRCT Practice help. Subject Areas - Reading, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math

I make 95% of the materials that I use when working with a student. My belief is that the more fun and creative the lesson is when presented to the child, the more engaged he/she will be in the materials at hand. I prefer using teacher-made resources rather than teaching/reading straight from a textbook; there are more opportunities for learning by using everyday materials versus a textbook.

Tutoring session are 1.5 hour sessions. Upon the first visit, I would need a minimum of 2 hours. This will allow me to evaluate your child and do an assessment of his/her strengths and weaknesses. I would then, develop a tutoring plan that would be based on your child's needs. The plan will include the over all goal and objectives used to achieve that goal.

Some assorted educational materials. Some were made by me and some were bought. Most pertain to Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade. Most of these games can be modified for different grade levels. (This isn't everything that I have, this is just a few things that I had pictures of. Will get the others posted as soon as I'm able to get pictures of them.)
