Our office is heartbroken by the sudden loss of Dr. Elizabeth Huggins.

She was a pioneer for student advocacy, everyone’s biggest cheerleader, and someone who always had time to listen, encourage, and help. Her impact reached far beyond campus through the many students she led abroad to Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, and beyond.

Her impact on our students is unmatched, and she will be deeply missed. We are so grateful for the light she shared with all of us.

Meet Raegan, one of our recent Study Abroad Scholarship recipients.

She spent part of her college experience studying in Italy, where she got to explore new cities, try new foods, experience Italian culture and, of course, visit Lake Como, which she says was her favorite part of the trip.

For her, the scholarship made studying abroad a little more manageable financially and allowed her to focus on enjoying the experience.

Her advice to other students thinking about studying abroad? Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Traveling somewhere unfamiliar can be intimidating, but that’s also where some of the best experiences happen.

And to the donors who helped make her trip possible, she says:

“Thank you! Your generosity gives students the opportunity to have experiences that can truly impact their lives and their college journey.”

If you’d like to help make study abroad more accessible for another AU student, consider donating to the Study Abroad Scholarship Fund through .

Meet Amanda!

Amanda oversees everything financial in the Study Abroad Office. She says the best part of her job is interacting with students and faculty to meet their needs to ensure they can go on amazing adventures.

She is excited to have recently received her first passport and is looking forward to putting it to use.

When she’s not overseeing our office budget, she enjoys playing tabletop games with friends, going to the movies, and embracing her life’s direction.

Meet the Team!

Meet Rachel, our Director of Study Abroad! Rachel oversees our faculty-led programs and works with students, faculty, and campus partners to create meaningful study abroad experiences.

Her own study abroad experience as an undergraduate inspired her career in higher education, and she’s passionate about helping students step outside their comfort zones and discover the impact of going abroad.

When she’s not helping students get ready to explore the world, you can find Rachel traveling, reading, running, doing jigsaw puzzles, or spending time with her family and four cats!

If you're a faculty or staff member interested in leading a program, contact Rachel for more information!
