The winners of the 2025 Maine Envirothon from the Maine Academy of Natural Sciences are competing at the National Conservation Foundation International Envirothon in Calgary, Alberta. Over 50 championship winning teams from around the world are competing in this weeklong competition. The teams arrived Sunday and took part in an opening ceremony, social, and swap meet. Monday featured training in Forestry, Aquatics, Wildlife, Soils, and this year's Current Issue "Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change."
Today the competition begins with field testing on each of these areas. Good luck to our team from Maine!

The Spruce Mountain Envirothon Team finished 20th overall at the National Conservation Foundation international competition. The team scored a superlative 97% in aquatics and was ninth In the world with their project solution to the problem scenario they had to solve. The scenario dealt with managing a local farm and implementing renewable energy practices to make the farm more sustainable. The current issue oral presentation project tests the team’s ability to work together and solve real world problems. The Spruce Mountain Envirothon team is competing at the National Conservation Foundation International Envirothon competition at Hobart and William Smith colleges in Geneva, New York. The team trained with resource professionals on Monday and tested all day Tuesday. We are headed with the entire group to Niagara Falls today. Tomorrow the team will be sequestered to solve a current issue problem dealing with this year‘s topic of renewable energy and will give a presentation on Friday. Thank you to everyone who helped make this trip possible!

Spruce Mountain Envirothon team competes internationally Last year all competitions were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, but this year virtual meets were possible for some teams.

Congratulations to the Spruce Mountain High School Lynx, the 2021 Maine Envirothon State Champions. The Maine Envirothon went virtual this year and teams from across Maine were able to compete online. The Spruce Mountain Lynx earned the right to compete at the 2021 National Conservation Foundation Envirothon, which will also be held remotely. This years competition is about Nebraska's natural resources and preserving ground water in the Ogallala Aquifer.

The Maine Envirothon Champions from Spruce Mountain High School had a great time in North Carolina at the National Conservation Foundation Envirothon last week. They were in the top 15 in 3 areas. The team was 10th in the current issue test (81/100), 14th in aquatics (82.5/100), 15th in forestry (77/100). They finished 31st overall with a score of 455.58/700
